Mahindra has significantly expanded production of its Batman-themed electric SUV after experiencing unprecedented demand from customers across the country. The company announced on August 21 that it would increase the availability of the BE 6 Batman Edition from 300 units to 999 units, marking a substantial 233% jump in production numbers.

The decision comes barely a week after Mahindra launched this special edition variant in collaboration with Warner Bros Discovery Global Consumer Products. The Batman Edition, inspired by Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy, represents the company's attempt to merge cinematic heritage with electric mobility.

The limited edition SUV carries a price tag of ₹27.79 lakh, positioning it ₹89,000 above the regular Pack Three variant on which it is based. This premium reflects the extensive customisation work undertaken by Mahindra's design team, led by Chief Design & Creative Officer Pratap Bose.

The exterior showcases a custom satin black finish that provides what the company describes as a "stealthy and intimidating look". Gold-painted suspension components and brake callipers create a striking contrast against the dark bodywork, whilst 20-inch alloy wheels enhance the aggressive stance. The iconic Batman emblem from The Dark Knight Trilogy appears strategically positioned on hub caps, front quarter panels, rear bumper, windows, and rear windshield.

Batman-themed detailing extends throughout the cabin, where passengers encounter a brushed gold Batman Edition plaque with unique numbering for each unit. The interior features charcoal leather with gold stitching, whilst the Batman emblem appears embossed on seats, the boost button, and various interior labels. A Batman-inspired welcome animation greets users through the infotainment display.

The production increase reflects Mahindra's confidence in the electric SUV market, particularly following the remarkable success of its standard BE 6 and XEV 9e models. These electric SUVs attracted 30,179 bookings worth ₹8,472 crore on their first day alone, demonstrating strong appetite for premium electric vehicles.

Mahindra's electric vehicle strategy has proven remarkably successful, with the company delivering over 10,000 units of the XEV 9e and BE 6 within just 70 days of commencing deliveries. This achievement translates to selling approximately one electric SUV every 10 minutes.

The timing of the Batman Edition's expanded production aligns with the broader electric vehicle momentum across the country. India's EV market recorded 1.96 million registrations in fiscal year 2024-25, representing a 17% increase over the previous year. Electric car sales specifically showed even stronger growth, with May 2025 figures up 52% year-on-year.

Mahindra has introduced several customer-friendly features for the Batman Edition, including allowing buyers to select their preferred badge number from 001 to 999. However, the company has made these numbers non-exclusive, meaning multiple vehicles may carry the same badge number.

Pre-bookings for the Batman Edition opened on August 21 at 5pm on Mahindra's website, with customers able to pay the ₹21,000 booking amount from August 23. Deliveries are scheduled to commence on September 20, coinciding with International Batman Day.

The collaboration with Warner Bros Discovery represents a significant milestone for both companies. Vikram Sharma, Senior Vice President of Warner Bros Discovery Global Consumer Products, APAC, emphasised that Batman represents innovation, resilience, and an unyielding drive to push boundaries". Anand Singh, Senior Director for Consumer Products at Warner Bros Discovery South Asia, noted that "India has one of the most passionate fan bases for Batman anywhere in the world".

Mahindra's success in the electric vehicle segment has contributed to reshaping the competitive landscape. While market leader Tata Motors' share dropped to 38% from 68% in the first half of 2024, Mahindra doubled its market share to 17%. JSW MG Motor India also increased its share to 32%.

The Batman Edition is based on the top-specification Pack Three variant, featuring a 79 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed range of 683 kilometres. The electric motor produces 228 bhp of power, enabling acceleration from zero to 100 kmph in competitive timescales.

Technical specifications include DC fast charging capability that can replenish the battery in 20 minutes using a 140 kW charger. AC charging options include 7.2 kW and 11.2 kW systems, with corresponding charging times of 8.7 hours and 6 hours respectively.

The vehicle incorporates advanced safety features including six airbags, electronic stability control, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Comfort features encompass wireless charging, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a digital instrument cluster.
