Mahindra Marazzo Not Discontinued: Back On Official Website

Just a few weeks ago, it was reported that the premium MPV Marazzo from Mahindra had been discontinued. It was reported after the MPV was delisted from the website. However, recently it has been found that Mahindra has relisted the Marazzo MPV on its official website. Earlier, it was believed that the Marazzo was discontinued due to its lackluster sales and the growing dominance of SUVs in the Indian market.
This time around, it has been noted that the Mahindra Marazzo has made a comeback with a noticeable price increase. The new pricing strategy has made the Marazzo cost Rs. 20,000 more than before. The MPV is currently available in six variants, and prices now range from Rs 14.39 lakh for the base variant to Rs 17 lakh for the top variant, all ex-showroom.
The M2 7-seater and M2 8-seater variants, previously priced at Rs 14.39 lakh, now cost Rs 14.59 lakh. Similarly, the M4 Plus 7-seater and 8-seater variants have seen their prices increase to Rs 15.86 lakh and Rs 15.94 lakh, respectively, up from Rs 15.66 lakh and Rs 15.74 lakh.
Additionally, the M6 Plus 7-seater now retails at Rs 16.92 lakh, an increase from Rs 16.72 lakh. Meanwhile, the M6 Plus 8-seater is priced at Rs 17 lakh, up from Rs 16.80 lakh. These price adjustments suggest that Mahindra is positioning the Marazzo as a more premium offering in its segment.
Mahindra Marazzo’s relisting has come as a surprise to a lot of people. It was noted that the sales of this MPV had been particularly disappointing. Only 182 units were sold in the last six months. This then prompted Mahindra to temporarily remove the vehicle from its website.
This typically signals the end of a model’s production. The Marazzo, as we all are aware, had been struggling for several years without any significant updates. So its removal was seen as a hint at its final discontinuation.
For those who may not remember, the MPV was launched in September 2018. And as stated above, it is available in 7- and 8-seater configurations. It is powered by a 123 bhp, 300 Nm producing 1.5-litre diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
However, despite its promising specifications, the Marazzo’s sales never truly took off. The company only averaged 34 units per month over the last five months. The competition from other MPVs like the Maruti Ertiga, XL6, Kia Carens, and Toyota Innova overshadowed the Marazzo’s presence in the Indian MPV market.
The Mahindra Marazzo has a number of unique selling points which include its spacious interiors and solid build. It was developed by the Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Michigan, USA. At the time, it was the first car to be designed outside India by the automaker.
Now, despite its innovative development origins, the Marazzo struggled due to its limited feature set and lack of modern features. It does not offer a sunroof, ventilated seats, or a touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, which are becoming standard in its segment.
Additionally, the absence of an automatic transmission and a CNG option added to its limited appeal. Also, the Marazzo’s front-wheel-drive setup on a ladder-frame platform was unique but not always advantageous. In hilly regions, for example, the front-wheel-drive configuration was less desirable compared to the rear-wheel-drive setup of competitors like the Toyota Innova Crysta, which offered better traction.
