Mahindra is scaling up production of its electric SUVs ahead of the festive season. The company rolled out 4,921 units of the BE 6 and XEV 9e from its Chakan plant in August 2025. This is a 15% increase over July’s 4,290 units and the highest monthly figure since launch. In total, 29,126 units have been built in the first eight months of 2025.

Stronger Sales Momentum

Between January and August 2025, Mahindra dispatched 26,942 units of the BE 6 and XEV 9e to dealers. This gave the models a 7% share of the company’s record SUV sales of 390,464 units during the same period. More importantly, the two models now account for 18% of the overall electric passenger vehicle market, up from just 5% last year.

The XEV 9e has emerged as the more popular of the two, with 59% of bookings, while the BE 6 accounts for the remaining 41%. Retail sales in August hit 3,495 units, marking a 937% increase compared to August 2024. May 2025 was the best month so far with 4,308 units, though sales through the summer have remained consistent.

Expanding Production Capacity

Mahindra has steadily increased capacity to meet demand. From 5,000 operational units per month in March 2025, the figure has risen to 8,000 units now. The target is to reach 12,000 units by March 2026 and 18,000 units by FY27. This phased growth is aimed at balancing supply with the order pipeline while maintaining quality checks.

The festive season is expected to be a key test. Car sales traditionally peak during Diwali and Dussehra, and Mahindra is positioning its EVs to benefit from this surge. Higher-spec variants have seen good response, especially the Pack Three models with 79 kWh battery packs and over 500 km of range, showing that customers are willing to pay for extended range and features.

Technology and Features

Both SUVs use Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform, built exclusively for electric vehicles. Unlike ICE conversions, this platform allows more flexibility in design and packaging.

The XEV 9e comes with a triple-screen layout, while the BE 6 offers twin screens. Shared features include Level 2+ driver assistance systems, 360-degree cameras, and premium audio setups with up to 16 speakers.

These specifications have helped position the BE 6 and XEV 9e as full-featured EVs rather than compromise products. Buyers see them as competitive with rivals in terms of technology and capability.

Expanding Market Reach

Mahindra is also looking beyond big cities. Expansion of the retail network and improvements in service support are part of the plan to bring EVs into Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets.

Deliveries have already crossed 20,000 units within five months, with the vehicles together covering 9.3 crore kilometres. This real-world running is important in building trust among new customers.
