Mahindra Scorpio Classic Base Variant: Video Walkaround Of The Most Affordable Scorpio
The Mahindra Scorpio, launched way back in 2002 is still being sold in the Indian market. The SUV has seen multiple facelifts and generation changes over the time. Currently, Mahindra sells the Scorpio in two avatars: the modern and feature packed Scorpio N and the iconic Scorpio Classic. Today, we will talk about the base trim of the Scorpio Classic which is shown in a YouTube video uploaded by Her Garage.
The Scorpio Classic is sold in two variants: the base S trim and the top of the line S11 trim. The price of the base trim starts at Rs. 13.62 lakh for the seven seater version and it costs Rs. 13.87 lakh for the nine seater version. On the other hand, the S11 trim is available in seven seat configuration only which is priced at Rs. 17.42 lakh. Please note that all the prices mentioned are ex-showroom.
The video starts with the front profile of the SUV. As this is the base trim, Mahindra has not offered body colored bumpers, body colored door handles and body colored side cladding.
The headlight setup is reflector based halogen which features a chrome strip instead of the DRL. The grille comes with a rough black finish with gloss black inserts. In the top variant, these gloss black inserts are replaced by the chrome.
Fog lamps are missing in this trim. The Scorpio Classic retains its signature hood scoop which is a distinctive feature present since the SUV’s launch.
The SUV drives on 17-inch steel rims. The indicators are mounted on the fenders and as expected the ORVMs have to be manually adjusted and folded. Surprisingly, the ORVMs are body colored. Footsteps and roof rails are missing in this trim. The host highlights a unique thing about this SUV which is two fuel lids. Mahindra has positioned the diesel tank on the left and the DEF tank on the right. Hence, two fuel lids had to be offered.
The rear profile of the car misses out on a lot of features such as rear wiper with washer, defogger, spoiler and the reverse parking camera. However, two parking sensors are offered.
Now, let’s talk about the cabin. The interior of this SUV is finished in a color combination of beige and black. The door pads are basic and they come with a door handle and a grab handle only. No other controls are placed on the door.
Mahindra has not even offered the place to mount speakers in this trim. The cabin is quite simple with no chrome elements or gloss black elements. It lacks all the basic features such as steering mounted controls, infotainment system and speakers.
The infotainment system is different from the one offered in top trim. Standard features include all four power windows, leatherette upholstery and adjustable headrests.
All in all, this trim lacks all the basic features. The S trim is good only for those people who want to customize their car as per their taste or want to save some money by converting it from base to top.
The Scorpio Classic is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine which is the same unit used in the lower trims of Scorpio-N. This engine produces a power output of 132 PS and a torque of 300 Nm. The gearbox is a 6-speed manual.
