The Mahindra Scorpio-N has been a popular model in India. Built to global standards, it is sold in multiple international markets like South Africa and Australia as well. The SUV currently comes in 6 colour options including two shades of Black. However, it looks like Mahindra is about to introduce a dedicated Black edition of the Scorpio-N in the Indian market. While there has been no official press release or hint from the manufacturer regarding the launch yet, the Black Edition Scorpio-N has already started reaching dealerships. A recent video from a dealer yard shows the vehicle in detail.

Mahindra Scorpio-N Black Edition: Quick Look At It

In what claims to be India’s first video of the Scorpio-N Black Edition, the host shows around the vehicle in deep detail. The video shows the range-topping Z8L variant. It remains to be seen which variants and trims would get the Black Edition in India.

The Scorpio-N already has a butch design. The Black colour only adds to this. The entire bodywork is painted in Black. Plus, the parts which aren’t Black on a regular Black-coloured Scorpio-N, like the skid plates, for instance, have been either painted Black or darkened out. The 18-inch alloy wheels are also painted Black. Even the roof rails are Black. There is minimal usage of Chrome on the exterior. The front fascia gets a Chrome strip and garnishes on the grille slats.

The host further says that it would have looked even better if the brake callipers were painted Red. We, however, think that a Yellow or Blue paint job for these would look equally awesome.

Major changes can be seen inside the cabin. The outgoing Scorpio-N has a Brown themed cabin. On the Black edition, the cabin has a dark theme to it as well. The upholstery, dashboard, door panels and roof liner are all finished in a shade of Black. Inside you can also find tasteful touches of Satin Silver and Piano Black. The inside door handles are finished in dark Chrome. You also get to see Chrome at several places inside the cabin.

Since the upholstery is Black, parking in the sun would get the seats extremely hot. But don’t worry, the Scorpio-N Black edition would come with ventilated seats for the first and maybe even the second-row seats. We are not very sure about the second-row ventilation though. There is even a single-pane sunroof on offer, which would further be of use in cooling the cabin. In short, the cabin looks more menacing and attractive in the Black colourway.

The Black edition looks like a cosmetic upgrade and the mechanicals and powertrains remain unaffected. It is powered by the same petrol and diesel engines as before- 2.2L mHawk diesel and 2.0L mStallion turbocharged petrol.

The Scorpio-N Black Edition Already On Sale In Australia

It might be surprising for many that Mahindra launched the Black edition Scorpio-N in Australia even before it made its India debut. The vehicle is sold under the name ‘Scorpio’ there. The ‘Black edition’ was originally created to clear off the MY23 stocks in the Australian market.

However, the limited edition soon got appreciated, and this could have played a part in making the carmaker bring it to the Indian shores as well. In Australia, a Black edition would add accessories and equipment worth $3000 to the Z8 variant, along with a completely Black colourway. It has a drive-away price of $41,990 there- the same as the standard Z8.

It remains to be seen how the carmaker would play it with the prices and kit levels on the India-spec Black edition. If we are to go by the video, these seem to be unchanged. However, things like footsteps would be offered. We will have to wait for details on other accessories and add-ons that are to be expected.
