The Mahindra Scorpio N, already a dominant force in the SUV segment, is about to become even more compelling with two major upgrades that enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting. According to reliable sources, Mahindra will soon introduce a panoramic sunroof and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to its hugely popular Scorpio N lineup. This significant feature enhancement comes at a time when the SUV continues to enjoy remarkable sales success, with over 14,400 units sold in May 2025 alone, marking a 5% year-on-year growth.

A New View from the Top: Panoramic Sunroof Set to Elevate the Cabin

The current Scorpio N offers a single-pane electric sunroof restricted to higher variants, but the upcoming upgrade will introduce a panoramic option that spans a significantly larger portion of the roof. Unlike the conventional sunroof, a panoramic version extends wider and longer, covering both front and rear seating areas to create an enhanced sense of spaciousness and airiness inside the cabin.

For SUV owners, a panoramic sunroof transforms the driving experience in multiple ways. It floods the interior with natural light, making the cabin feel more open and connected to the surroundings. During night drives, passengers can enjoy stargazing without leaving the comfort of the vehicle. The panoramic design also offers similar benefits to a convertible but without the associated drawbacks, providing a sense of openness while maintaining structural integrity and safety.

Smarter and Safer: ADAS Brings Semi-Autonomous Driving to Scorpio N

The addition of Level 2 ADAS technology represents a significant leap forward for the Scorpio N in terms of safety and convenience. This semi-autonomous driving technology allows the vehicle to control steering and acceleration/braking automatically in specific scenarios while still requiring the driver to remain alert and ready to take control.

While Mahindra has not officially confirmed the exact features, the ADAS suite is expected to mirror what's available in the XUV700, including smart pilot assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist, and lane keep assist. These features work in concert to enhance safety by monitoring surroundings and assisting the driver in potentially dangerous situations.

The timing of this upgrade aligns with growing consumer awareness about automotive safety features in the market. Industry experts project that around 30% of new cars sold in the country will be equipped with Level 2 ADAS technology by 2030. Mahindra is clearly positioning itself ahead of this curve with the Scorpio N upgrade.

Holding the Crown: Scorpio N’s Continued Market Reign

The Scorpio N has been a remarkable success story for Mahindra. In April 2025, Mahindra climbed to second place among carmakers with an impressive 8.9% month-on-month growth, selling over 52,000 units. The Scorpio range has been the jewel in Mahindra's crown, with the Scorpio N/Classic being the bestselling model in the company's portfolio.

This popularity has translated into waiting periods ranging from 1.5 months for the base Z2 variant to 3.5 months for the top-end Z8 variant. The demand remains strong despite the SUV being priced between ₹13.99 lakh and ₹25.15 lakh (ex-showroom).

With the addition of the panoramic sunroof and ADAS features, the Scorpio N will strengthen its position against key rivals like the Tata Safari, Toyota Innova Crysta, MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, and even its sibling, the XUV700. The Safari, in particular, has been a direct competitor, but the Scorpio N's rugged appeal, powerful engine options, and now enhanced feature list give it distinct advantages.

Performance Stays Intact: No Change in Powertrain

The feature upgrades are expected to be offered with the existing powertrain options. The Scorpio N comes with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 203 PS of power and 370 Nm of torque, and a 2.2-litre diesel engine available in two tunes: 132 PS/300 Nm for lower variants and 175 PS/400 Nm for higher variants.

Both engines are paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The diesel variant also offers a 4WD option, making it a capable off-roader. Fuel efficiency ranges from 12.12 kmpl to 15.94 kmpl depending on the engine and transmission combination.

Raising the Safety Bar: 5-Star Rated and Getting Better

The Scorpio N already boasts impressive safety credentials, having secured a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash tests. It scored 29.25 out of 34 points for adult occupant protection, though it received a 3-star rating for child occupant protection.

The addition of Level 2 ADAS will further enhance the SUV's safety quotient, potentially making it one of the safest vehicles in its segment. While the ADAS suite will likely be restricted to higher variants, reports suggest that the updated Scorpio N might also get more standard safety features across the range, such as six airbags and tyre pressure monitoring system.

What’s Next: Timeline and Pricing Expectations

The new variant with ADAS and panoramic sunroof is expected to be positioned at the top of the Scorpio N lineup. While prices haven't been announced yet, expect a premium over the current top-end variants. The feature enhancements are part of what appears to be a model year update rather than a full facelift, as the Scorpio N was launched relatively recently in 2022.

For potential buyers, these upgrades make the already compelling Scorpio N an even more attractive proposition, combining rugged capability with advanced technology and premium features that enhance both safety and comfort. As consumer preferences continue to evolve towards safer, more feature-rich vehicles, Mahindra's decision to upgrade the Scorpio N keeps it firmly at the forefront of the competitive SUV segment.
