As the traffic across all major and even smaller cities in India is increasing rapidly, the demand for automatic cars is going up exponentially. Today, people want an easier-to-drive vehicle which does not tire them during peak traffic. So, in order to lure in more automatic gearbox buyers, Mahindra Automotive is planning to offer a new and more affordable AT variant for its popular SUV, the Scorpio-N. At the moment, the exact launch date has not been revealed.

Mahindra Scorpio-N AT to get cheaper

As per the reports, to fulfill the demands of buyers looking to buy a more affordable automatic transmission-equipped Scorpio-N, the company will soon be launching the Scorpio-N Z4 AT variant in India. This variant will make the Scorpio-N AT a lot more affordable. Currently, the company only offers the Scorpio-N with an AT gearbox in Z6, Z8, and Z8L variants.

Currently, the Scorpio-N Z4 manual gearbox variants start at Rs 15.77 lakh (ex-showroom). It is believed that the Z4 AT variant will be priced at a premium of Rs 1.5–1.6 lakh over the manual counterparts. As for the engine options, it has been reported that the Z4 AT will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options.

The petrol variant will come powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine, which produces 200 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. As for the diesel variant, it will come equipped with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, which makes 172 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. Both engines will come mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

What's the need for Scorpio-N Z4 AT?

The most affordable variant of the Scorpio-N with an automatic gearbox costs Rs 22+ lakh on-road, depending upon the state and city. Now, with the launch of the Z4 AT variants, this price will go below Rs 20 lakh, making the Scorpio-N AT more affordable and within reach of buyers of this SUV.

In terms of the design and features, the new automatic gearbox-equipped Scorpio-N Z4 variants will be exactly the same as the current Z4 MT variants. They will continue to get dual-barrel LED headlights, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, four-speaker audio, rear AC vents, and fold-and-tumble seats. It has to be mentioned that a 4X4 system will not be offered by the company.
