Mahindra Thar Roxx Bags 1.76 Lakh Bookings In Just 1 Hour!

Mahindra today opened bookings for the much anticipated Thar Roxx in the country. The SUV which is in huge demand, managed to get 1.76 lakh bookings within 60 minutes (1 hr) of opening the portal. This is the highest first-day bookings count for any manufacturer’s products in India. Bookings began at 11 am on October 3, 2024.
The Roxx is already a success for M&M, and the unprecedented response seems to have influenced share prices as well. The Mahindra stock is selling for Rs 3,165 during the morning session on the NSE, reflecting investor confidence in the brand.
Mahindra, during the official media drives of Thar Roxx, said they will have sufficient stock at the time of ‘start of bookings’, for hassle-free deliveries. It, however, did not give a number. Let’s assume it to be around 30,000 for now. The monthly production capacity of the Thar brand is 9,500 units at present. This is the 3-door and Roxx combined. Further breaking this down, it is 6500 units of Roxx and 3,000 units of the 3-door Thar every month. Mahindra says they have plans to expand this in the future.
With 30,000 units already in stock and the current production levels, waiting periods for the new Thar Roxx could easily reach 1 year! 1.8 lakh, is indeed a huge number. If the immediate dispatch numbers are any lower, the waiting period could boom further to about years. So, a wait time between a year to two years for the ROXX’s delivery may be safely assumed for now for most people.
Mahindra will start commencing deliveries of the all-new Thar Roxx during the auspicious occasion of Dussehra. The Mocha interior 4×4 Roxx will start reaching owners in January 2025. Despite concerns, Mahindra is seen assuring customers of a smooth delivery process. The huge number of bookings might have intimidated many. However, the official communication says that Mahindra will get in touch with customers and communicate their tentative delivery timelines, in the three weeks following Dussehra.
The Thar Roxx is available with 18 variants and 6 broad trims. There are 7 exterior colours offered- Stealth Black, Tango Red, Everest White, Deep Forest, Nebula Blue, Battleship Grey, and Burnt Sienna. The interior gets two colour choices on the 4×4 variants- Ivory and Mocha. The 4WD hardware is only offered on the MX5, AX5L, and AX7L trims, with automatic 4WD being exclusive to the AX5L and AX7L.
The starting price for the base petrol variant of the Thar Roxx is ₹12.99 lakh, while the entry-level diesel starts at ₹13.99 lakh. The top-end 4WD variant comes at ₹22.49 lakh. (All prices ex-showroom)
The five-door SUV is significantly larger than its three-door sibling, featuring a unique design with elements like a 6-pack grille, new wheels, LED DRLs, and pillar-mounted rear door handles. On the inside, it gets a spacious cabin and an impressive feature list.
It comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display, wireless charger, automatic AC, 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof (the largest in its segment), and rear AC vents. Initially, the Thar Roxx was only offered with an Ivory interior colour scheme. However, following customer and media feedback, Mahindra has added a Mocha Brown interior colour option for the 4×4 variants. Darker shades are particularly popular among off-road enthusiasts who prefer a more dirt-friendly colour.
The Roxx is built on Mahindra’s new M-GLYDE platform and shares its engine and transmission options with the Scorpio-N. There are two engine choices: a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol, available with both manual and automatic transmissions.
