Most Affordable Mahindra Thar ROXX 4X4 Trim Reaches Dealers: Video

Mahindra has launched the Thar Roxx in the country. The bookings are open and deliveries too have begun. There are a total of 6 trims available- MX1, MX3, AX3L, MX5, AX5L, and AX7L. The ‘MX’ and ‘AX’ ways of naming variants are common in modern-day Mahindras. The 5-door Thar offers optional 4WD on select trims. The most affordable Roxx variants have started reaching dealerships. In a new video, a vlogger has detailed the MX5 variant from what looks like a dealer yar, showing what it offers and what it doesn’t.
The video shows the MX5 variant with a diesel engine, manual transmission and 4WD. It is the most affordable Roxx variant to offer four-wheel drive hardware. With an ex-showroom price of 18.79 lakh, it could also be the most VFM variant. This video tour shows the vehicle in detail. The host explains the key differences between the MX5 and MX5 4WD.
The two-wheel drive MX5 gets highway tyres (H/T) while the 4WD version comes with all-terrain tyres (A/T). The latter also comes with a 4×4 badge at the rear and disc brakes for all wheels. The variant also comes with bi-beam LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 6-pack grille and other lights. The rims are 18-inch units. Unlike higher variants, the MX5 4WD gets manual folding exterior mirrors.
The ROXX had just a single interior colourway- Ivory- available at launch. The manufacturer later added a new, dark, Cafe Mocha colourway as well. The video shows a ready-to-dispatch unit. It thus has an Ivory interior colour, as deliveries of the Mocha Brown will begin only in January next year. The host says there is ample room on the inside and the seats are comfortable.
The feature list on the MX5 is decent. It gets deriving modes, push-button start, frameless IRVM, automatic wipers, rear wiper, automatic headlamps, manual cluster with MID, infotainment system, rearview camera with adaptive guidelines (no 360 camera), 6 speaker audio (4 speakers and 2 tweeters), footwell lighting and a single pane sunroof. It also gets a slew of safety features and tech. The video further shows the rear seats and speaks about their comfort. They can also be reclined.
In terms of powertrain, the MX5 4WD comes just with the familiar diesel engine. This vehicle offers 4WD only on the diesel variants. The petrols are all RWDs. The 2.2L mHawk diesel engine produces 150 hp and 330 Nm. The manual gearbox is a 6-speed unit.
First, look at the price. 18.79 lakh ex-showroom, is great. The on-road price could hover over 22 lakh. This, if you might recollect, is the price of a higher-spec Creta or Seltos. The 4×4 tech is quite capable and you get AT tyres with offroad-friendly treads. This variant thus lives up to the ‘Thar’ nameplate and its legacy. This variant will be able to tackle terrains and do off-roading like none of its rivals. You also get to have all-wheel disc brakes.
The missing features, tech and compromises made can all be forgiven for the pricing and placement of this trim. It is definitely the most value-for-money variant of the Roxx.
Like the 3-door, the first unit of the ROXX (VIN 001) was auctioned off, with the proceeds going to a meaningful cause. The winning bid was made by Minda Corp’s Akash Minda who spent a whopping 1.31 Cr for the very first Roxx that comes with VIN 001 interior plate and a signature of Anand Mahindra.
