Mahindra Thar ROXX Gets A Torque BOOST

The Thar ROXX ( five-door Thar) has been a huge hit. The SUV is selling well and has reached the garages of many celebrities and public figures as well. Now, Mahindra has silently rolled out a notable update on the ROXX. The vehicle's torque has had a 10% (30 Nm) increase, as confirmed by the latest brochure.
The revision applies only to the diesel ROXX with the automatic (AT) gearbox. Previously, this powertrain used to deliver 370 Nm of torque. Post revision, the SUV has 400 Nm of torque on offer on the diesel automatic variants. Other variants and powertrain configurations continue with the same power and torque outputs as before.
For the uninitiated, the diesel Thar ROXX houses Mahindra's 2.2L mHawk engine under its hood. Depending on variants, this can be had in two states of tune- the first that produces 150 hp and 330Nm (found on lower variants) and the second that makes 172 hp and (previously) 370Nm.
The latter has now been updated to offer 400 Nm of torque. In the previous state of tune, the 370 Nm peak torque used to come in between 1500rpm to 3000rpms. However, now, the chunk starts flowing in only at 1750rpm. The torque curve is slightly different now.
Mahindra hasn't updated any under-the-hood hardware for this update. This seems to be a case of ECU retuning. The rework has allowed the turbocharger to build more boost before being limited.
This isn't the first time that we see Mahindra implement ECU updates. Previously, the TCU map of XUV700 D AT was updated to fix coasting issues in the second gear.
The Thar ROXX was launched in India in 2024. It stands close to the three-door in terms of design. Key exterior highlights include a six-pack grille, 19-inch wheels and a unique C-pillar design. The ROXX, however, is significantly larger than the 3-door Thar. It has an impressive road presence. The SUV comes in seven colour options- Stealth Black, Tango Red, Nebula Blue, Battleship Grey, Everest White, Deep Forest, and Burnt Sienna.
The cabin comes finished in Ivory on RWD variants and has an optional Mocha Brown colourway for 4WD variants. Mahindra has taken special care in keeping the cabin practical, comfortable and usable. It comes with features such as 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, digital driver display, wireless charger, automatic AC, wireless Carplay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, and rear AC vents. There is even a large panoramic sunroof on offer, which prevents the occupants from feeling claustrophobic.
There is generous space on the inside, compared to the 3-door. A update earlier this year, added more features to the ROXX, making it even more comfortable to live with. Keyless entry, sliding function for the front passenger-side armrest, and more aerodynamic wipers were then added to it.
Mahindra has based the ROXX on the new-age M-GLYDE platform. This body-on-frame chassis uses modern technology like Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD). The rear gets a penta-link suspension with Watts linkage.
In addition to the diesel engine discussed above, the ROXX also has a turbocharged petrol engine on offer- 2.0L mStallion. These engine are used in other Mahindra SUVs as well, and can both be had with manual and automatic transmissions. The manufacturer offers Four Wheel Drive (4WD) on the MX5, AX5L, and AX7L trims while others get Rear Wheel Driver (RWD).
The ROXX has its prices in the range of Rs 12.99 lakh- 23.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
