Mahindra Thar ROXX And MG Windsor EV Bookings Open Today: All You Need To Know

The bookings of two highly anticipated automotive models will begin today, the third of October 2024. Mahindra Thar Roxx and MG Windsor EV had both been launched recently, revealing the variant and price details. If you are planning to buy any of these vehicles, this is your chance to reserve your unit, and here’s a quick run-down through all the key details of these vehicles.
Mahindra had launched the Thar Roxx on the Independence Day. The five-door SUV is available in a total of 18 variants and seven colours (Stealth Black, Tango Red, Everest White, Deep Forest, Nebula Blue, Battleship Grey, and Burnt Sienna). Both 4×2 and 4×4 variants are available.
There are six primary trims- MX1, MX3, MX5, AX3L, AX5L, and AX7L. 4 Wheel Drive is only offered on the MX5, AX5L and AX7L trims. Out of these, only the AX5L and AX7L offer the choice of a 4WD automatic. We have explained these variants in a previous article, so that you get to choose yours with ease.
The Roxx has a starting price of 12.99 lakh for the base petrol and 13.99 lakh for the entry-level diesel. The range-topping 4WD variant has an ex-showroom price of 22.49 lakh.
Mahindra Thar Roxx is considerably larger than the three-door counterpart. In terms of design, it packs a bunch of unique elements like a 6-pack grille, new wheels, LED DRLs, pillar-mounted rear door handles etc. The cabin is roomy and packed with features. Equipped with the likes of 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display, wireless charger, automatic AC, 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio, Ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof (the largest in its segment), and rear AC vents, the Thar Roxx offers good occupant comfort and usability. It can, in fact, be had as the family’s only car. We have talked more about this in first drive review.
There are two interior colourways on offer- Ivory and Mocha. Initially, just the Ivory colourway was being provided. However, after the official launch and media drives, considering the popular demand for a darker inside colour scheme, Mahindra announced the ‘Mocha‘ on the 4×4 variants. The 4×4 customers now get to choose between Mocha Brown and Ivory, at the time of booking.
The Roxx is based on Mahindra’s new M-GLYDE platform and comes with the same engine and transmission options as the Scorpio-N. It can be had with the 2.2 mHawk diesel engine and the 2.0 mStallion petrol engine. Manual and automatic gearboxes are available. 4×4 hardware is available on select variants only.
Almost all dealers have posted large number of pre-bookings for the Roxx. The official bookings began today at 11 am. Booking amount for the Roxx is Rs 21,000. Deliveries of the Roxx with Ivory interiors will begin later this month while those with Mocha interiors will start reaching customers in January next year.
The Windsor EV is MG’s latest launch in India. Reservations for this Nexon EV rival are now open. You can book yours by paying Rs 11,000, through the website and via dealerships. Deliveries are known to begin on October 12, 2024. In MG’s domestic portfolio, the Windsor sits between the Comet and the ZS EV.
JSW MG Motor India offers two ways of owning this vehicle- the traditional way and through what it calls ‘Battery As A Service’ (BAAS). BAAS for MG, means that the customer pays the price of the vehicle alone, and continues to pay a monthly rental for the battery pack, depending on usage. The concept seems interesting and has helped bring down the prices.
The BAAS models will sit quite well with fleet owners in particular. How the regular personal user would respond to it remains to be seen. MG is also offering competitive buyback prices as well. Here’s a video walkaround, to give you a better picture of what the MG Windsor packs:
It comes in three variants: Excite, Exclusive and Essence. If taking the BAAS route, the Excite variant can be had for an ex-showroom price of 9.99 lakh. The full prices (Car+ battery) of these variants are 13.50, 14.50 and 15.50 lakh respectively. This pricing has made it less expensive than the Nexon EV.
The Windsor has what MG calls the AeroGlyde design. It gets all-LED lighting, a closed-off grille, flush door handles, 18-inch wheels, Blacked-out pillars, a glass antenna and an illuminated front MG logo. The cabin gets a luxurious design with 15.6-inch jumbo touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display, a 9-speaker Infinity audio system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and first-in-segment 256-color ambient lighting. The seats will be able to recline up to 135 degrees, providing a lounge-like experience.
Talking powertrain, the Windsor gets a 38 kWh battery pack, and a front-axle-mounted electric motor that produces 136 hp and 200 Nm. It is claimed to deliver a range of 331 km every charge. To find out the same, we did a quick range test with the EV. Watch it below.
