Mahindra Thar ROXX Or Hyundai Creta/Maruti Grand Vitara – Which Has More Interior Space And Luggage Space

Mahindra Thar Roxx has been officially unveiled and launched in the Indian market. The SUV will soon start reaching dealerships, and the test drives for the same will start on September 14. Bookings for the new Mahindra Thar will open on October 3rd, and deliveries are expected to start by Dussehra. While we have a detailed first drive review of the Thar Roxx on our YouTube channel and website, there are a few things that people still have in their minds about the Roxx. One of them is the interior space and the boot space. In this article, we compare the interior space of the Thar Roxx with some of the best-selling compact SUVs in the Indian market.
For this article, we are comparing the Mahindra Thar Roxx with the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. We’ll start with the dimensions first. The Mahindra Thar Roxx is 4,428 mm long, 1,870 mm wide, and 1,923 mm tall. The wheelbase of the all-new Thar Roxx is 2,850 mm.
The Hyundai Creta, on the other hand, is 4,330 mm long, 1,790 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall. The wheelbase of the Creta is 2,610 mm. Maruti’s Grand Vitara measures 4,345 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width, and 1,645 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. On paper, the Mahindra is longer, wider, and taller than these two popular compact SUVs.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is now a proper 5-door SUV. While we felt that the rear doors are narrow, the seats do not disappoint. The front and rear seats offer ample space for passengers. Even taller drivers and passengers can sit comfortably. Mahindra is also offering split seats at the rear with multiple recline angles.
Hyundai Creta and Grand Vitara also offer the same feature. The bigger dimensions of the Thar Roxx are definitely converting into better space in the cabin. The light-colored interiors also help the Mahindra Thar Roxx in giving the cabin an airy look.
Boot space was a major issue with the 3-door Mahindra Thar. The lifestyle SUV had almost zero practical boot space. Mahindra decided to address this issue with the Roxx as well. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara offers 373 liters of boot space in the mild hybrid variant. The strong hybrid variant only offers 265 liters of space. The Hyundai Creta SUV offers 433 liters.
Mahindra Thar Roxx leads in this segment too. Thar Roxx on paper offers a massive 644 liters of boot space. It is a wide-opening, boxy, and extremely practical boot with a split tailgate. This makes the Mahindra Thar Roxx more than just a lifestyle SUV. It now offers the comfort and convenience of a regular compact SUV along with the rugged SUV look.
Other than the extremely practical and spacious cabin and boot, the Roxx also comes with a premium-looking cabin and features like Level 2 ADAS, leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a fully digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and so on.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The SUV is powered by the same 2.0-liter mStallion turbocharged petrol engine (174 Bhp-380 Nm) and 2.2-liter mHawk turbocharged diesel (174 Bhp-370 Nm) engine.
Both petrol and diesel engine options are available with manual and automatic transmission options. Unlike the 3-door, Mahindra is not offering 4×4 as a standard feature with the Thar Roxx. Mahindra knows that only a small portion of customers take their SUVs off-road. Only the diesel variants of the Thar Roxx get the 4×4 option. The petrol variants could get the 4×4 option in future though.
