Mahindra launched several new and interesting models in the Indian market this year. This year, we got the updated XUV400, the XUV3XO, and the Thar Roxx recently. Both the XUV3XO and Thar Roxx are performing well in terms of numbers, and lately, Mahindra is one of those brands people associate with build quality. The latest crash tests by Bharat NCAP have proven this. The Mahindra XUV3XO, XUV400, and the Thar Roxx have all passed the crash test with 5-star ratings.

Mahindra Thar Roxx

We recently came across images of a Thar Roxx crash. Although the SUV appeared to be in poor condition, the cabin of the vehicle remained intact. This was also confirmed in the Global NCAP crash test, where the Thar Roxx performed exceptionally well. According to the test results, the SUV performed the best among the three.

The Thar Roxx scored 31.09 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection, and for child safety, the SUV scored 45 points out of 49. AX5 L and MX3 variants of the Roxx were sent for testing. In the test, the front of the SUV was completely damaged, but the impact did not compromise the structure of the cabin. Airbags deployed on time in all three SUVs, which is crucial during a crash.

The Mahindra Thar Roxx is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, while the diesel version uses a 2.2-liter turbocharged engine. Only the diesel version offers 4×4 as a feature. Both petrol and diesel engines come with manual and automatic transmission options.

Other than these three models, Mahindra’s Scorpio N and XUV700 have also received 5-star ratings in crash tests. After Tata, Mahindra has become the Indian car manufacturer with the most number of 5-star rated cars in the market.

Mahindra XUV400 EV

The Mahindra XUV400 EV is actually the electric version of the XUV300, which was previously available for sale. Unlike the older XUV300, the XUV400 EV is over 4 meters long, as the sub-4-meter rule doesn’t apply to EVs. The Mahindra XUV400 EV scored 30.38 points out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection.

In terms of Child Occupant Safety, the SUV scored 43 points out of 49. These scores helped secure the 5-star rating in the crash test. The SUV performed well in both front and side collision tests. From the video, we can clearly see that the pillars and structure of the SUV remained stable after the impact.

A facelifted version of the XUV400 electric SUV is in the works, and has been spotted testing on Indian roads. A market launch sometime in early 2025 is likely. The new SUV is expected to have fresh styling, taking inspiration from its internal combustion engined (ICE) sibling – the XUV 3XO.

Mahindra XUV3XO

Compared to the XUV400, the XUV3XO scored slightly lower in adult occupant protection, achieving 29.36 points out of 32. It passed the child occupant safety test with 43 points out of 49. Just like the EV, the XUV3XO also performed well in the front offset deformable barrier test and the side crash test.

The cabin looked stable, and it appears that the SUV kept the dummies safe after the impact. The Mahindra XUV3XO is actually the heavily facelifted version of the XUV300. Mahindra completely changed the look and name of the SUV with this update. It is available with both petrol and diesel engine options.
