Mahindra Thar and XUV700 Facelifts Coming in 2026: What to Expect

Two of Mahindra’s most popular SUVs, the Thar and the XUV700, are set for major updates in 2026. The 3-door Thar was launched in 2020 and the XUV700 followed in 2021. Both SUVs will get major design changes and more features on the facelifts. The powertrains are likely to remain the same as the outgoing models.
The new Thar will take design inspiration from the 5-door Thar ROXX. The 3-door model, codenamed W515, is likely to get a completely new fascia. It will have a grille with vertical slats, that looks like the 'six-pack grille' of the ROXX. It will also get C-shaped LED DRLs, and possibly even all-LED headlamps. The tail lamps and bumpers are also expected to be new. There will be chunkier body cladding as well. New alloy wheels could also be offered.
Inside the cabin, the new Thar could get the updated steering wheel seen on the ROXX, along with repositioned buttons and controls for better usability. Expect better kit and more features like a larger touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, and even a sunroof on the hard-top variants.
The XUV700 facelift, codenamed W616, will feature a more modern and futuristic design, inspired by Mahindra’s new Electric Origin SUVs- BE 6 and XEV 9e. These have sharp lines, clean surfaces and a bold road presence— the facelifted XUV 700 will likely adopt the same ethos.
The new SUV could also get a new connected LED headlight setup, an updated front grille, and squared-off wheel arches. The rear design might also get a tweak to match the front's fresh appeal.
Inside, the new XUV 700 could get a cleaner layout and more features. It could even feature the large triple-screen setup that we see on the XEV. The cluster will then include a large infotainment touchscreen, all-digital instrument cluster and a dedicated entertainment screen for the co-driver.
Reports also suggest that the dashboard layout could be cleaner on the new model. The Sony 3D surround audio system on the outgoing model could be replaced with a Harman Kardon setup similar to what we see on the XEV 9e. However, the manufacturer is yet to confirm anything about this.
While the exteriors and interiors will look new, both SUVs will keep their existing engine and transmission options. For the Thar, buyers will be able to choose from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine (152hp) or one of two diesel units—a 1.5-litre (119hp) or a 2.2-litre (132hp). All engines come with a 6-speed manual, but the petrol and 2.2-litre diesel also offer a 6-speed automatic option.
The XUV700 facelift will continue with the current 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 200hp and 380Nm. It will also offer the 2.2-litre diesel engine with an output ranging from 155hp to 185hp, depending on the variant. These will come with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The 2026 facelifts of the Thar and XUV700 aim to keep Mahindra’s momentum strong in India’s fiercely competitive SUV market. The fresh design and added features could add to the appeal of these. The upcoming models will also reflect the carmaker's intention to align its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle designs with those of the EVs.
Due to the reworks gone into these and the additional equipment offered, the new XUV 700 and Thar (3-door) are likely to be pricier than the outgoing models.
