Mahindra has finally revealed four highly anticipated vision cars at the Freedom_NU event in Mumbai. The Vision S, Vision T, Vision SXT and Vision X give us quick previews of the design direction that the carmaker will take with its future SUVs based on the NU_IQ platform.

Mahindra Vision S

The Vision S was probably the most anticipated of the lot. The production form of this will likely join the Scorpio family when launched. The Scorpio lineup now has just the N and Classic forms.

On the design front, the Vision S has a very bulky, boxy shape. Several dead straight lines can be seen on the bodywork. The front fascia, however, looks modern and has the Twin-Peaks logo. The concept has vertically-set LED lights, and the headlamp cluster. Together, these create an interesting L-shape. Look carefully and you'll see radar and front parking sensors as well. The fog lamps have a pixel-like design and look interesting.

It is evident from the styling that this SUV will be off-road capable. It even gets roof-mounted lights, rugged bumpers, plastic side claddings and chunky wheel arches. The bonnet even has limb risers. It indeed looks masculine. The alloy wheels are stylish and the concept has flush door handles as well. Since this is a concept, the brand has given cameras in place of ORVMs.

You'd have noticed by now that some of the design cues of this vision car resemble those of the next-generation Bolero that's now undergoing road trials.

Vision T

Revealed at Mahindra's annual Independence Day event, the Vision T is an evolution of the Thar.E concept showcased in 2023. The production model is expected to arrive in 2027. It will, obviously join the Thar family. The concept looks so much like a Thar. Mahindra calls this philosophy 'Born Iconic'.

The Vision T has a squarish bonnet with latches, bulky wheel arches, a two-part grille with six horizontal slats (just like what you see on the Thar ROXX), a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, uniquely styled headlamps, tail lamps, and rides on all-terrain tyres. The overall design is clearly outdoorsy!

Vision SXT

The SXT concept is also underpinned by the NU_IQ platform and will spawn both EV and ICE versions in the future. Also based on the 'Born Iconic' design language, this will be an iteration of the Thar.E concept. The concept has a pickup-like design with a small cargo bay which accommodates two tyres. The production form will join the Thar lineup.

Key highlights of this design are a split-grille, squarish bonnet and Vision.T-like doors. Despite being based on the NU_IQ monocoque platform, the production form of the SXT concept will have a proper off-road appeal to it and will come with AWD.

Mahindra Vision X

The Vision X previews a sub-four meter SUV, based on the NU_IQ platform. The Vision X will spawn a sub-four SUV targeted at urban buyers. When launched, it will compete with the likes of Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet and the Hyundai Venue.

The key highlights of this design are clean lines, smooth surfaces and gorgeous details. The headlamps are sleek and beautiful. Even the airdam is quite good-looking and slender. It gets a long hood, tapering roofline and has a coupe-like appeal. We can also spot flush-type door handles and a dual-tone rear bumper on the concept.

Versatile Platform Indeed

Mahindra's NU-IQ platform which underpins these vision cars is very versatile. It supports both FWD and AWD, and can spawn both left-hand drive and right hand drive vehicles. Both electric and ICE powertrains can also be used on this architecture. We have talked in detail about this platform and its capabilities in our previous story.
