Mahindra dropped a bomb last week with the unveiling of four concept versions of their upcoming models for the Indian market. They showcased the Vision S, Vision X, Vision T, and Vision SXT concepts to the public. Out of these four, it looks like the Vision S will be the first to launch in the market. A new set of spy images now shows the upcoming Vision S concept-based SUV from Mahindra being tested on Indian roads. From the looks of it, the Vision S could be the all-new Bolero.

The images, shared by CarWale on their website, reveal an SUV that looks very similar to the concept showcased at the Mahindra event last week. The first thing one would notice about this SUV is its design. It has a boxy stance, resembling the Vision S seen at the event.

However, the production version will come with several changes. It could actually be the next-generation Mahindra Bolero under testing, as we have already seen several spy videos and images of this SUV/MUV.

When compared to the Vision S, the test mule here features a different set of headlamps and tail lamps. The round headlamps and redesigned front bumper stand out as different from the concept. Up front, it gets Mahindra’s signature grille flanked by round Thar Roxx-like projector LED headlamps. An LED strip can also be seen on the bumper.

The SUV features squared-off wheel arches, 5-spoke alloy wheels, flared rear fenders, and vertically stacked tail lamps. One spy shot gives a partial glimpse of the cabin, though it is not very clear. A grab handle for the driver to climb into the seat is visible. The dashboard remains covered, but we expect Mahindra to offer a new premium-looking cabin design with features like a large touchscreen infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, panoramic or single-pane sunroof, and more.

The upcoming Mahindra Vision S (or next-gen Bolero Neo) will be based on Mahindra’s new NU-IQ platform. This versatile monocoque chassis supports ICE, hybrid, and EV powertrains. The Bolero / Vision S SUV has been spotted testing earlier as well, but Mahindra only revealed the concepts during the recent event.

From the looks of it, the Vision S is the only SUV that closely resembles the Bolero Neo. The SUV is likely to be a front-wheel-drive model positioned in the sub-4-metre SUV segment. The NU-IQ platform can underpin both sub-4-metre and larger 4-metre-plus SUVs.

The SUV seen here is probably the ICE version, which is expected to arrive first. It will likely be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, with the possibility of Mahindra also offering an mStallion series turbo-petrol engine.

As this is based on Mahindra’s new platform, the new SUV might get a hybrid and electric version in the future too. The production version of this SUV is expected to hit the market sometime around 2027. As usual, Mahindra is expected to price it competitively.
