Mahindra Vision.T Concept Teased Ahead Of Independence Day Reveal: Thar Sport or Thar-E?

The SUV manufacturing giant Mahindra Automotive, at this year’s Independence Day, will be organizing its #Freedom_NU event. At this event, it will be launching a few new cars and showing off a few new concepts. Recently, the company has released an all-new teaser on its social media platforms, which gives us a glimpse of the new concept, which has been named the “Vision.T.” The company has currently not revealed what the T stands for, but it is believed it could be Thar.e or Thar Sport.

Mahindra Vision.T teaser released

This new teaser of the Mahindra Vision.T has been shared on Instagram by Mahindra Auto on their official page. In this short clip, we can note the bonnet of this soon-to-be-unveiled vehicle from the top angle. It can be noted that it looks very similar to the bonnet and front portion of the Mahindra Thar.e concept, which was showcased back in August 2023.

Mahindra, at the time, even filed the patent for the design of the Thar.e. As for the recent teaser and the design details it has revealed, we can note that this vehicle boasts a short front overhang, knobby M/T tyres for proper off-roading, flared wheel arches, and an upright windshield. Also, the lines on the bonnet are very bold and muscular as well, giving it a tough off-roader appearance.

The company, in the teaser, has mentioned that this vehicle will be unveiled at the #Freedom_NU event in Mumbai on Independence Day. Now whether it will be a concept vehicle or a near-production version has not been revealed by the company.

Could be Thar.e or Thar Sport

There are speculations that the Vision.T teased in the clip above could be either the production version of the Thar.e concept or the Thar Sport, which has been spotted testing on the roads for a while. If it is the former, then most likely it would be the electric version of the Thar.

However, if it is the latter, then it will most likely be a light off-roader based on a new monocoque chassis. This will help in luring in more buyers who prefer the looks of an off-roader but want a vehicle which is smooth to drive on the city roads for day-to-day driving.

Thar.e concept

What we think is that the Vision.T could be the final production version of the Thar.e concept due to Anand Mahindra's announcement, which was made back in August 2023 when the concept was revealed. At the time, Anand Mahindra had stated, “Nope. Not just a concept. From the moment we all saw the prototype, we were committed to making this a reality…”

So it is very likely that over the last two years, the company has managed to bring this concept vehicle into reality without making many alterations to the original design. Now, if this vehicle is actually an electrified Thar, then it most likely will be borrowing the EV powertrain from the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9E.

What we also believe is that it could also be given a dual-motor setup to make sure that it gets AWD and can perform some serious off-roading. Now whether this becomes reality or not will be found out on August 15th.
