Mahindra XEV 7e Spied On Test Again, Reveals New Details

Mahindra is known to be working on an all-electric version of the XUV 700, which would be called the XEV 7e when launched. The carmaker has been actively testing the electric SUV. Now, a new spy picture has surfaced, giving more details of the upcoming vehicle's design.

The picture shows the mule to be heavily camouflaged. Unlike previous spy captures, the new picture gives out some key details. From the side, the electric SUV looks the same as the XUV 700. Several cues seem to have come from the XV 9e.
An inverted L-shaped element or DRLs, a blanked-off grille, and aero-optimized wheels tie the design close to those of the Electric Origin SUVs. Another feature that the spy pictures reveal is the flush-type door handles. The XEV 9e and BE6 already offer these. Even the XUV 700 (Internal combustion engine version) has these. The alloy wheels are finished in a dual-tone colourway. The test mule also seems to have a panoramic sunroof on offer.
The cabin design is expected to borrow heavily from that of the XEV 9e. The layout and colours used, could have similarities. Mahindra's new-age two spoke steering wheels with illuminated logo will also mark its presence on the 7e.
The XEV 7e will come feature-packed. It will have the likes of multi-zone climate control, triple screen setup, powered and ventilated front seats with memory function, 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, ambient lighting, and more. The remote parking features found on the 9e could also be carried over.
The outgoing ICE version - XUV 700 - itself is known for being feature-rich. Mahindra is already working on a major facelift to it, which is expected to add prominent restyling and more features to the SUV. When this launches, the electric and ICE versions stand close to each other in cabin design and to equipment to some extent.
We expect Mahindra to base the XEV 7e on the INGLO platform. This skateboard platform has been developed in-house by Mahindra and is versatile enough to support different top hats.
The powertrains are expected to be sourced from the BE6 and XEV 9e, in which case, 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs will be used in the new EV. The larger could offer a range of around 600 km per charge. There are unconfirmed rumours suggesting that Mahindra could new battery packs on the 7e- 60-65 kWh on the lower spec and 80+ kWh unit on the AWD variant. These batteries will have support for superfast charging and the charging times could be better than those offered by the Harrier.EV.
The 7e was previously expected to come with a rear-axle-mounted motor and a Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) setup. After Tata Motors disrupted the space with an All Wheel Drive (AWD)-equipped Harrier.EV, Mahindra seems to be mulling a dual-motor setup for the XEV 7e as well.
In this case, the lower variants could get RWD while the higher ones could come with AWD. We expect the dual-motor setup to deliver around 325 hp. More details will surface closer to the launch.
There is no word yet from Mahindra on the possible launch timeline for the XEV 7e. It could be out by late 2025. Mahindra has already announced a mega unveil event for its electric vehicles on August 15, 2025. It remains to be seen if the carmaker will debut the 7e at the event. In Mahindra's electric vehicle portfolio, it will sit between the BE6 and XEV 9e.
