All You Need To Know About The New Mahindra XEV 9E Electric SUV

Mahindra launched two electric SUVs yesterday – the BE 6E and XEV 9E. The XEV 9E is the flagship electric SUV from the brand, and is positioned as a luxury electric vehicle. It is even bigger than the XUV700! A host of cool features are on offer, including a dramatic three LED screen dash. Here’s everything you need to know about the Mahindra XEV 9E electric SUV.
Like the Mahindra BE 6E, the XEV 9E also gets the same electric motor, which will generate 282 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. It will also be available in RWD configuration with three driving modes – Range, Everyday, and Race.
Battery pack options will remain the same as the BE 6E: 79 kWh and 59 kWh. The larger battery pack will offer 656 km of range, and the smaller one will offer 542 km of range. As for charging, with the 175 kW DC fast charger, the XEV 9E can be charged from 20-80 percent in just 20 minutes.
With the 11 kW wall charger, full charging of this SUV will take 8 hours (79 kWh) and 6 hours (59 kWh). As for pricing, the XEV 9E has been launched with a price tag of Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
Like the BE 6E, the XEV 9E is also based on the same INGLO platform, which has been developed in-house by Mahindra. This new skateboard architecture has been designed with safety and flexibility in mind. Both of these cars are designed from the ground up to be electric – they are not electric conversions of existing ICE (petrol and diesel) cars.
Dimensionally, the XEV 9E is larger than the XUV700. It measures 4,789 mm in length, 1,907 mm in width, 1,694 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,775 mm. Ground clearance of the XEV 9E is 207 mm, and it offers a boot capacity of 663 litres and a frunk capacity of 150 litres.
In terms of exterior design, the Mahindra XEV 9E is a very bold-looking SUV with a lot of street presence. It is very long, and its flow of design is very smooth. This unique SUV has been designed with great attention to aerodynamics. At the front, it gets a unique edge-to-edge LED DRL and vertically stacked LED headlights.
It also gets a closed-off grille and blacked-out front bumper. There is also radar for ADAS at the front, and it gets a silver skid plate as well. Up top, the XEV 9E features the Mahindra Infinity logo with illumination. Moving on to the side profile, the SUV gets thick black claddings and flush-type door handles for the front doors.
The rear door handles are hidden in the C-pillar. The SUV also gets 19-inch alloy wheels as standard, and there will be optional 20-inch aerodynamic wheels on offer. The main highlight of this SUV is its rear-end design, which gets a sloping roofline to give it a coupe-like design. The rear also features similarly designed LED taillights, a black bumper, and silver skid plates.
Moving on to the interior design of the XEV 9E, as it is spiritually based on the XUV 700, it boasts a similar dashboard layout. However, it must be mentioned that there are a number of new additions that make it a lot more futuristic and advanced.
The main highlight is the Wide Cinemascope Cockpit. It boasts three interconnected 31.24 cm screens at the front: one in front of the driver, which is the digital instrument gauge cluster; another in the middle, which is the infotainment screen; and lastly, one in front of the front passenger.
There will also be 16 million colors for the dual-zone ambient lighting, and the XEV 9E will feature sage green interiors with eco-friendly materials. It will also come with a rapid cooling advanced automatic climate control system that offers PM 2.5 filtration as well.
Similar to the BE 6E, the XEV 9E will also get MAIA – Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture. It will include the super-powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor with 24 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. Additionally, it will support Wi-Fi 6.0 and Bluetooth 5.2.
Mahindra VisionX, the Augmented Reality HUD, will be included in this SUV, along with the LiveYourMood system. The popular music producer AR Rahman has curated special sounds to enhance the ambience of the cabin of the XEV 9E.
Additionally, the XEV 9E will feature a very high-end 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos. There will be two sound profiles – Immersive and Studio – and a new BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) compatibility for rear passengers. Amazon Alexa and Over-The-Air (OTA) updates will also be offered in this new coupe EV SUV.
As part of active safety features, the Mahindra XEV 9E will come equipped with ADAS Level 2+. Its ADAS suite will include adaptive cruise control, lane-changing assistance, obstacle detection, and many others. The XEV 9E’s ADAS will utilize 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 radars, and 6 cameras. It will also get a 360-degree camera.
The Mahindra XEV 9E will also feature Autopark. With this, the SUV will be able to perform perpendicular, angular, and parallel parking, and there will also be reverse assist and remote-controlled options.
