Mahindra XUV 3XO EV Coming Soon: New Spyshots Show Production Version

We know that Mahindra is working on an electric SUV based on the new XUV 3XO. We’ve been hearing anticipations and rumours around it since the Indian giant launched the XUV 300 facelift in April 2024, calling it the ‘XUV 3XO’. Mahindra’s first electric SUV- the XUV 400 still manages to sell well, and it remains to be seen if the new EV (currently codenamed S240) would co-exist with it. Most likely, it will replace the 400 when launched. Recently, a new set of spy shots of the 3XO EV have surfaced, giving a more detailed look at the design.
The first thing to notice is that this EV will have the same proportions as the 3XO, its length sitting below the 4-meter mark. The XUV 400 on the other hand, spans 4.2 meters in length ( longer than the 3XO EV by 200 mm) and offers ample space at the rear and a likeable boot capacity. The 3XO EV will come with a compromised boot and rear-row seats, like its ICE counterpart.
The EV is expected to receive distinctive styling changes over the ICE version. While heavily camouflaged in the spy shots, certain elements/details can be seen vaguely, such as the distinctive C-shaped LED daytime running lamps, and tail lamps that look directly borrowed from the 3XO. The front fascia will see notable restyling, likely including an EV-specific grille, redesigned bumpers, EV badges and signature Copper-coloured trims and accents.
The side could feature new alloy wheels and low-resistance tyres as well. A few previous spy shots had shown a set of different wheels on the mule. The latest set, however, has proper aero-inspired EV wheels on the prototype. They also show a Copper-coloured roof on the mule, much like what you would see on the XUV 400. There are roof rails as well. At the rear, the logo and all lettering will wear the signature Copper colour.
A quick glance at the inside shows off-White upholstery and several Copper coloured inserts. The drive selector gets these and has Copper surrounds as well. The Mahindra logo on the steering wheel is also finished in the same colour. We have seen similar treatment on the XUV 400 as well. Most features will likely remain the same as the 3XO.
While available details are sparse, many reports suggest that the 3XO EV will likely come with a 35 kWh battery pack. It is a touch smaller than the 40 kWh battery on the XUV 400. There is no word yet on the range that is to be expected or the exact specifications of the electric motor. But considering Mahindra’s focus on competitive packaging and evolving electric vehicle technology, it’s likely to offer a decent range at a more affordable price point.
Upon launch early next year, the 3XO EV will slot below the XUV400 in Mahindra’s growing EV portfolio. It will be priced below the 400, with an expected gap of around ₹2 lakh. Mahindra’s first electric SUV is currently priced between ₹15.49 lakh and ₹19.39 lakh. The 3XO EV will likely undercut the Tata Nexon EV as well, which currently sells for ₹14.49 lakh- ₹19.49 lakh. It will then make for an attractive option in the growing electric SUV market. It could put up a strong fight against the Citroen eC3 as well.
The carmaker is expected to launch a slew of other electric vehicles in the forthcoming years. It will launch the XUV.e8 (XUV 700 EV), e9 and BE.05 next year. Most of these models will be based on the newly developed INGLO skateboard platform.
