The Indian SUV manufacturing giant, Mahindra, has started the development of its new electric vehicle – XUV 3XO EV. Recently, the test mule of the XUV 3XO EV was spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. This latest sighting hints at the nearing launch date for this electric SUV. Once launched, the XUV 3XO EV will compete with its primary rival, the Tata Nexon EV, which was recently given a facelift.

Closer Look at the XUV 3XO EV

The spy shots of the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV have come courtesy of ACI. From these images, we can note that the XUV 3XO EV has been designed to retain the overall aesthetic of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. It, however, gets a few distinct modifications that set it apart as a dedicated electric vehicle.

The spy shots of the heavily camouflaged XUV 3XO EV showcase some of its key design elements. Notably, the C-shaped LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) are clearly visible. Also, the front grille, which is partially hidden, is expected to undergo a redesign. This will likely feature a blanked-out style that is common with EVs.

While the overall design language remains similar to the ICE version, the XUV 3XO EV is anticipated to feature restyled bumpers and new badging. It could also get new alloy wheels, which may include plastic insets designed to improve aerodynamics. Additionally, Mahindra may offer exclusive color options for the EV variant to differentiate it from the ICE model.

Powertrain and Battery Specifications

At the moment, the official details for the XUV 3XO EV have not been revealed. However, experts believe that it will come with a 35kWh battery pack, which is smaller than the 40kWh unit found in the XUV400 EV. This battery size positions the XUV 3XO EV as a more affordable option within Mahindra’s electric SUV range.

Mahindra XUV 3XO EV front

Presently, the specific details about the electric motor are not confirmed. However, there is speculation that Mahindra may utilize a retuned version of the motor found in the XUV400. The XUV400’s motor produces 148 bhp and 310 Nm of torque.

The XUV 3XO EV’s 35kWh battery is expected to provide a range of around 375 km on a single charge. The vehicle is likely to support both AC and DC fast charging, ensuring that owners can recharge their batteries quickly and conveniently.

Mahindra XUV 3XO EV: Market Positioning and Pricing

Mahindra is expected to position the XUV 3XO EV below the XUV400. This could be done to make it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers who are interested in transitioning to electric vehicles. The pricing of the XUV 3XO EV is expected to undercut the XUV400 by approximately Rs 2 lakh.

This could place it in the range of Rs 13.49 lakh to Rs 17.39 lakh. This pricing strategy is designed to make the XUV 3XO EV competitive against other electric SUVs in the market, particularly the Tata Nexon EV. Currently, the Nexon EV is priced between Rs 14.49 lakh and Rs 19.49 lakh.

Mahindra’s Upcoming XUV.e8

Apart from the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, the company is also working on the development of the XUV.e8. This model is expected to be Mahindra’s first fully electric SUV based on its new INGLO platform. This platform has been designed specifically for electric vehicles.

The upcoming XUV.e8, which will be based on the XUV700, is expected to come with an 80kWh battery pack. It could deliver a power output in the range of 170-210kW for the rear-wheel-drive version. Mahindra may also offer an all-wheel-drive variant, with power output ranging from 250kW to 290kW. It is expected to offer a driving range of more than 500 km.
