The XUV700 has been an extremely successful model for Mahindra in India. The flagship SUV used to come in both five, six and seven-seater forms, spread across 58 variants. The latest news has it that you won't be able to buy the 5-seater XUV700 anymore, as the carmaker has now discontinued the same. Mahindra seems to have pulled the plug on 15 variants, spread across MX and AX lines, and petrol and diesel powertrain options.

With the rejig, the base price of the XUV 700 has moved up to Rs 14.49 lakh, ex-showroom ( for the base-spec MX petrol manual). Previously, this was Rs 13.99 lakh. Now, a total of 43 variants are available, including the recently added 'Ebony edition'. Those such as the MX, AX3, and AX5 in 5-seater form are no longer available.

Post revision, the AX5, AX5 S, and MX trims come with just seven-seat layouts. You'd be able to choose six-seater option only on higher trims like AX7, AX7L and the Ebony editions.

Mahindra launched the XUV700 in India in August 2021. The vehicle slotted in as the Indian carmaker's prestigious flagship and was available in both petrol and diesel engine options.

The petrol variants drew their juice from a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine while the diesel ones were powered by a 2.2L turbocharged diesel (mHawk) engine. Both manual and automatic transmissions were offered. Mahindra even offered All Wheel Drive (AWD) system on the top-spec petrol variants, which interestingly, did not manage to gather crowds in the long run!

The carmaker managed to pull off a disruptive pricing to the XUV700 at launch. It started at Rs. 11.99 lakh back then! The SUV thus shook the landscape and sprinted into acceptance.

Ebony Edition Is Now On Sale

In March this year, Mahindra launched a limited-run Ebony edition to the XUV700. Priced from Rs 19.64 lakh, ex-showroom, the special edition has an all-Black colourway. The top-spec Ebony edition costs Rs 24.14 lakh, before taxes. The exterior wears Stealth Black, and you can also find multiple Silver accents at various places of the design. Many trims and elements have been Blacked out or darkened. The overall visual appeal of the XUV700 has only gone up with the Ebony edition joining the lineup.

The cabin too gets a dark(-ened) theme. The feature list remains identical to that of the top-spec AX7 and AX7 L trims. Notable features are 6-way powered driver’s seat with a memory function, dual-zone climate control, auto headlights and wipers, a 12-speaker sound system, ventilated front seats and rear LED sequential turn indicators and an electronic parking brake. The vehicle also comes with seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

The limited edition leaves the powertrain untouched. The engines, transmissions and their net outputs remain the same as those of the regular XUV700.

Mahindra has also confirmed that a facelifted XUV700 is coming in 2026. Internally codenamed W616, this upcoming iteration will borrow major styling cues from Mahindra’s Electric Origin SUVs- the BE 6 and the XEV 9e. Expect design updates such as connected LED DRLs, a fresh grille, and squared-off wheel arches to make an appearance on the new SUV.

The interior is also likely to get a major upgrade with more premium materials and additional standard features. However, no changes to the mechanical setup are expected.
