Maruti’s first electric SUV, the eVitara, was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo this year. The official launch of this EV will happen in the coming months. While we got an idea of what Maruti Suzuki will be offering in the upcoming EV at the expo, there are a few more features that Maruti is revealing in their new videos. Here, we have one such video where Maruti has showcased a feature that was first seen on Mahindra’s XEV 9E and BE6.
The video has been shared by Nexa Experience on their YouTube channel.
In this video, we see the exterior and interior design of the eVitara, along with a few features.
One such feature offered with the Maruti Suzuki eVitara is the Smart Grille with Adaptive Shutters. There is an active flap on the lower grille at the front that opens and closes automatically to reduce drag and improve aerodynamics. When these shutters are open, cold air from the outside gets under the bonnet, cooling the electric motor and helping to maintain the battery temperature.
When the flaps are closed, the air doesn’t go in; instead, it is redirected around the vehicle, improving aerodynamics. The Maruti Suzuki eVitara is not the first car or EV in India to get this feature. We have seen this in many performance cars. Mahindra also offers this feature in their recently launched BE6 and XEV 9E, where they call it an Active Grille. It is not visible, as the flaps are placed behind the bumper of these EVs.
Hyundai also offers this feature in the Creta Electric. It remains to be seen whether the Adaptive Shutters in the Maruti eVitara can be opened and closed with the touch of a button or if it is an automatic system that operates depending on the speed.
The Maruti Suzuki eVitara features a modern, bold, and innovative design that looks muscular as well. It gets signature three-point matrix LED DRLs and headlamps, a floating roof, 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, and more.
Moving inside, the electric SUV from Maruti gets a premium-looking cabin. The dashboard design is different from any Maruti model currently on sale in India. The interior includes square-shaped AC vents with silver outlines, a twin-deck floating-type center console with storage underneath, a rotary gear knob, an electric sunroof, a floating-type touchscreen infotainment system, and a fully digital instrument cluster.
The steering wheel on the eVitara is a new flat-bottom unit. The eVitara offers features such as drive modes (Sport, Eco, and Normal), ventilated front seats with 10-way electric adjustments for the driver’s seat, seven airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, and Level 2 ADAS.
The Suzuki eVitara is available with two battery pack options: a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh pack. The SUV is offered with both single- and dual-motor options internationally, with the dual-motor version featuring an AWD system. However, the Indian market will only get the single-motor variant.
Bookings for the upcoming Maruti eVitara are expected to begin in March, with the launch likely to follow soon after.
