Maruti Suzuki has revealed the production form of the eVX concept, calling it the eVitara. The electric SUV is known to make its India debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo in March 2025 and will compete with the likes of Nexon EV, Curvv.EV, and XUV 400 when launched. Another major competitor would be the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. Based on the available information, here’s a quick A-B comparison of the eVitara and the Creta EV.

Dimensions

The eVitara is 4,275mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,635mm tall. The wheelbase is a good 2,700mm. The Creta EV will be based on a modified version of the ICE model’s K2 platform. The wheelbase of the electric version will likely remain similar to those of the ICE model. Clearly the eVitara would have a longer wheelbase than the Creta EV, if the available data are to be believed. It is even longer than the Grand Vitara in wheelbase. The ground clearance is 180mm.

The additional expanse has made it possible to comfortably accommodate the large battery pack. No official confirmation of the actual dimensions of production-spec Creta EV are out yet. But we expect it to be larger in dimensions than the outgoing ICE version.

Design Highlights

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle looks good for sure. It stays true to the EVX in design and aesthetics. Key highlights include Y-shaped LED DRLs, projector LED headlights, muscular dark cladding, charging ports on the front flanks, closed-off grille, 18 and 19-inch wheels, and rear wheel arches. The front gets conventional door handles, while the rear gets pillar-mounted ones.

On the other hand, the Creta EV will have a design that looks similar to that of the ICE version. It will have LED lighting that resembles those on the ICE form, closed-off grille, EV wheels, front-mounted charging point, connected tail lamps and redesigned bumpers.

Interior And Features

When you step inside, the eVitara will greet you with its premium, practical and comfortable cabin. It gets a dual-tone interior colourway. It will have features like a dual-screen infotainment and instrument console, a floating center console, rotary drive selector, wireless phone charger, 360-degree camera, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The EV will also come with a complete ADAS package.

The electric Creta’s cabin will differ significantly from that of the outgoing version. It will have a 4-dot steering wheel, front-ventilated seats, 360 camera, ADAS, voice-enabled panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, and more. We have discussed more details of the Creta EV’s interior in a previous article.

Specifications

The Maruti e Vitara will use LFP battery packs sourced from BYD. Instead of importing cells, the manufacturer has chosen to import battery packs. This would ensure consistency in quality and in bringing down manufacturing complexity. It will offer two separate battery packs- 49kWh and 61kWh.

The smaller battery pack comes with a single motor setup that produces 144hp and 189Nm while the larger can be had in FWD and AWD layouts. The FWD-61kWh configuration makes 174hp while the AWD churns out 184hp and 300 Nm. The range could be over 500 km.

The Maruti EV is underpinned by a new Heartect-e platform (codenamed 40PL), jointly developed with Toyota. Earlier it was anticipated that it will be based on the 27PL architecture.

No official word is out yet, on the specifications of the Creta EV. It will likely feature a 45 kWh battery pack, and electric motors from the previous Kona. The powertrain output could be 136 bhp and 255 Nm. The range here, will likely over 450 km per charge (expected).

Speculative Launch Timelines

Both the Maruti eVitara and Hyundai Creta EV are known to make their premieres at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025. The market launch will likely happen soon after.
