Made-In-India Maruti Dzire Goes Hybrid But You Can't Buy One Just Yet

The fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire is currently the newest iteration of the popular sub-compact sedan. This new model in India is only offered with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine. However, the company also offers the new Dzire with a mild hybrid powertrain as well. Unfortunately, we cannot buy this particular model as it has been launched in the Philippines. It starts from PHP 920,000, which is approximately Rs 13.9 lakh.
The main highlight of the newly launched fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire hybrid is the mild hybrid powertrain. This newly launched Philippines model also gets the same 1.2-litre Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine. However, it gets a 12V mild hybrid system. This system comprises a 0.072 kWh battery pack and offers a 2.93 bhp-generating electric motor as well.
With this hybrid assistance, the Dzire hybrid sold in the Philippines offers a combined output of 80 bhp and 112 Nm of torque. In terms of the difference between the model sold in India, there is none. The Indian version also makes the same. The difference, however, is that the Indian version gets the AMT gearbox. Meanwhile, the Philippines version gets a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).
In terms of design, the model looks identical to the one sold in India. On the outside, the Dzire gets new, sharper, and sleeker angular LED headlamps. It also gets new two-tone 15-inch wheels, a sharkfin antenna, and a classy-looking rear end with LED tail lamps with Y-shaped details, a boot lip spoiler, and a new bumper.
On the inside, the new Dzire boasts a dual-tone beige and black interior scheme. It also gets a free-standing 9-inch touchscreen, analogue instrument cluster, wireless charger, traction control, rear AC vents, rear armrests, fast chargers, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Arkamys sound, Suzuki Connect, climate control, and a 360 HD camera.
It has to be noted that the Indian version comes with a sunroof, but the Philippines version does not get one. Suzuki is offering the Dzire in two variants in the Philippines, namely GL and GLX. As mentioned, the starting price of the Dzire hybrid in the Philippines is PHP 920,000 or Rs 13.9 lakh (approximately).
Most likely, the Indian market will not be offered this particular mild hybrid version. However, it has been reported that the company is working on an even better and more fuel-efficient version of the Dzire for India. It will be a Series Hybrid powertrain model. For those who may not be aware, in a series hybrid powertrain, the internal combustion engine acts as a generator and powers the electric motors, which power the wheels.
The main benefit of the new Series Hybrid system will be that it will help with more fuel efficiency. As per the company, with the internal combustion engine operating at its optimal efficiency level to generate electricity, the new Series Hybrid system will be able to deliver an impressive fuel efficiency of up to 35 kilometers per liter.
In addition to the Dzire Series Hybrid, Maruti Suzuki will be offering the Fronx crossover SUV, new-generation Swift, and the Baleno premium hatchback with this strong hybrid powertrain. These new models will make strong hybrid cars more affordable to the masses.
