India-Made Maruti Suzuki eVitara Electric SUV Scores 4 Stars In Euro NCAP Crash Test [Video]

Maruti Suzuki recently commenced the production of their first-ever electric SUV, the eVitara, in India. They are manufacturing the SUV in India for both domestic and international markets. The electric SUV is expected to be launched in the Indian market soon. Made-in-India Maruti Suzuki sent the eVitara to the Euro NCAP crash test, and it passed the test with a promising score. The Suzuki eVitara scored a 4-star rating at the Euro NCAP crash test.
The video has been shared by Euro NCAP on their YouTube channel. In this test, the electric SUV had to go through multiple crash tests. In the frontal impact test at 50 kmph speed, the electric SUV’s shell absorbed the impact very well. The shell remained intact, and even the A-pillars remained undamaged.
In the first test, only 50 percent of the front of the car crashed into a deformable barrier. In the second test, the whole front crashed into the rigid barrier. After this, the SUV was put through the side impact test, where the mobile deformable barrier impacted the driver’s door. Apart from this, a whiplash test was also conducted.
In all these tests, the SUV performed quite well. The airbags deployed on time in every test. Euro NCAP also conducted tests for pedestrian and motorist safety. The ADAS features were also tested as part of this evaluation. As per the report, the Maruti Suzuki eVitara secured 77 percent in Adult Occupant Safety, 85 percent in Child Occupant Safety, and 79 percent in Pedestrian Safety. The safety features on the Suzuki eVitara also performed well, scoring 72 percent.
The eSUV is sturdily built, and the only reason it fell short of 5 stars was due to Adult Occupant Safety (AOS). It scored 77 percent AOS, and if it had scored 80 percent, the overall rating could have been 5 stars.
The Maruti Suzuki eVitara is manufactured in Gujarat. The SUV’s production was delayed due to the rare earth material crisis. The SUV’s India launch is likely to happen in the coming months.
The SUV will be available with two battery pack options. It is based on the HEARTECT-e platform and comes with a 49 kWh battery pack and a 61 kWh battery pack. Internationally, the eVitara’s larger battery version is available with AWD or a dual-motor setup. The exact driving range of the eVitara has not been revealed yet. However, Maruti had stated during a presentation at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year that the SUV will offer a driving range of over 500 km.
In India, Maruti will be offering the SUV with both battery pack options, but it is unlikely to come with the AWD feature. Just like most Maruti models, the SUV is expected to be launched in the market at a very aggressive price point. It is a mid-size electric SUV that will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric in the segment.
Maruti recently unveiled their new Arena flagship SUV, the Victoris, which also scored a 5-star rating at the Bharat NCAP crash test.
