Made-In-India Maruti Suzuki eVitara Launched In The UK At 35 Lakh: We Estimate What The Electric SUV Will Cost In India

Maruti Suzuki had unveiled their brand new and first-ever electric SUV, the eVitara, in India earlier this year. As promised, the SUV has finally gone on sale in international markets first. The SUV will be coming to the Indian market later this year. The Suzuki eVitara is manufactured in India, and Suzuki has now officially launched the electric SUV in the UK. The SUV has been launched at a starting price of £29,999, which roughly translates to ₹35 lakh in India.
The reason why the eVitara has such steep pricing in the UK is probably because it is fully imported from India. This is not just the case with the eVitara—many Suzuki products sold in the UK are not made there, and that reflects in the pricing too. For example, the Maruti Suzuki Swift, a popular hatchback, is sold in the UK, but it is imported all the way from Japan.
Maruti manufactures the Swift in India, but it is different from the international version. The price for the Suzuki Swift sold in the UK starts at around ₹21.7 lakh and goes all the way up to over ₹25 lakh for the AWD version. The CVT version of the Swift costs around ₹24.5 lakh in the UK.
If you compare the CVT automatic version of the Swift with the base variant of the eVitara, there is a difference of over ₹10 lakh. Will the Maruti Suzuki eVitara in India cost as much as it does in the UK? We don’t think so. So how much will it cost? While we don’t have a clear price, let’s take an educated guess.
If you compare the prices of the Maruti Swift sold in India and the UK, you will find that there is a huge price difference. The version sold in the UK is different in terms of features and engine options when compared to the Indian version.
The Swift gets a CVT in the UK, while the Indian version comes with an AMT. There is a lot of difference, and Maruti intentionally skips a lot of features for the Indian version to keep the cost in check. A top-end ZXi AMT DT Swift would cost around ₹9.64 lakh, ex-showroom, in India. If Maruti were to offer all the features that its international version gets, the price of the Swift would have gone to ₹11–12 lakh, and that would have made the car less appealing.
The eVitara’s base variant in the UK is 30 percent more expensive than the Swift CVT. So if we were to assume that the Swift in India was priced at around ₹11–12 lakh, ex-showroom, the upcoming eVitara is also likely to be priced around 30–40 percent more than the Swift. If we go by this calculation, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVitara will have a starting price of around ₹14.5 to ₹15 lakh.
This is for the entry-level 49 kWh battery pack version. The higher variants with the bigger battery pack will be more expensive. The SUV will also be missing the AWD feature that is present in the international version, and we hope that this would help Maruti price the SUV competitively.
So, we think it's fair to assume that the eVitara will have a starting price of around ₹15 lakh, ex-showroom, and will go all the way up to ₹22 lakh, ex-showroom. In comparison, the Hyundai Creta Electric starts at Rs. 17.99 lakh for the base 42 kWh trim.
