Maruti Suzuki eVitara Electric SUV Production To Commence In Days: Details

Maruti Suzuki is set to begin production of its first electric SUV, the eVitara, with the first unit scheduled to roll out on August 26, 2025. This marks the company’s formal entry into the electric vehicle segment and positions India as a key global hub for EV manufacturing. The model is not only aimed at the domestic market but will also be exported to over 100 countries, reflecting Maruti Suzuki’s broader ambitions.
Production will take place at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, a facility that has been prepared specifically for EV production. Unlike earlier products designed mainly for Indian buyers, the eVitara has been developed as a global model, integrating requirements from multiple international markets.
The decision to use India as the primary base for EV exports highlights the country’s cost advantages, skilled labour, and established supplier network. The export-first approach also ensures larger production volumes, which in turn could help in keeping domestic pricing competitive.
The eVitara will come with two battery pack choices: a 48.8kWh option and a larger 61.1kWh pack. The bigger battery is claimed to deliver a range of up to 500 km on a single charge. This dual-battery strategy is designed to cater to both daily urban users and those who need longer distance capability.
A 500 km range puts the eVitara in direct competition with global rivals while addressing range concerns that often hold back EV adoption in India. With such figures, the SUV can realistically serve as a family’s primary vehicle instead of being limited to city use.
Maruti Suzuki will offer the eVitara in three trims – Delta, Zeta, and Alpha – following its familiar naming convention. This tiered approach allows the brand to cover different price points and feature sets, an approach that has proven successful in its petrol and diesel line-up.
Buyers will also get a wide palette of ten colours, including Opulent Red, Bluish Black, Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, and Nexa Blue. In addition, dual-tone options will be available, pairing colours such as Arctic White or Opulent Red with a contrasting black roof. These choices are likely to appeal to younger and style-conscious buyers.
The SUV will be officially launched in India during this year's festive season, possibly a month after production begins. The short gap between rollout and launch points to the extensive pre-production testing already carried out. The timing also coincides with the festive buying season, when demand for new vehicles is typically strong.
Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the electric space carries significant weight. The company’s brand recognition, service reach, and ability to deliver high-volume products could play a major role in speeding up EV adoption. At the same time, by exporting to over 100 markets, the eVitara strengthens India’s position as a global manufacturing base for electric vehicles.
