The Maruti Suzuki Fronx crossover SUV is not only popular in India, but it is equally popular in Japan as well. In October of last year, Maruti Suzuki started exporting the Fronx to Japan, and now it has been reported that this popular crossover SUV has managed to score an overall rating of 4 stars in the Japan New Car Assessment Program. Here are details of the crash test of the Fronx, which took place in Japan.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx JNCAP Scores

After being crash-tested by JNCAP, the Fronx was awarded 163.75 out of 193.8 points, or 84 percent, in the overall safety performance. Its preventive safety performance score was 79.42 out of 85.8, which translates to 92 percent. Then, in the collision safety performance tests, it scored 76.33 points out of 100, which is 76 percent. Lastly, in the automatic emergency call system, it scored 8 out of 8 points.

As per the JNCAP authorities, in the full-wrap frontal collision tests, the Fronx was driven at 50 kmph before a direct head-on crash. In this test, the crossover SUV managed to achieve a Level 5 rating. There was no significant deformation of the passenger cell. JNCAP added that airbag deployment, seat belt pretensioning, and energy absorption structure worked optimally.

In the offset frontal crash test, the Fronx managed to score 21.08 points out of 24 available, and it maintained cabin integrity. The authorities highlighted that 2.12 points were deducted as it could potentially cause damage to another vehicle. Additionally, in the side barrier test, which is done at 55 kmph, the Fronx managed to score a Level 5 rating.

As for the rear-end crash test, the Fronx was able to prevent whiplash injuries, and driver and co-driver seats scored Level 4 and 5 ratings, respectively. In pedestrian safety, the Fronx managed to reach Level 3 out of 5 in the head protection score, and in the leg protection score, it was able to achieve Level 5 out of 5.

Active Safety Features Helped It in Scoring More

For those who may not be aware, the Japanese-spec Fronx gets Advanced Driver Assistance System Level 2. As a result of this, in the autonomous emergency braking pedestrian detection, it scored Level 5. Similarly, in the lane departure prevention system, it scored full points. In the autonomous braking at intersections, it scored Level 3; in the high-performance headlight test, it scored Level 4; and lastly, in the pedal misapplication prevention test, it scored Level 4.

Japanese-Spec Fronx Safety Features

As stated, the scores of the Fronx in Japan NCAP were high because of its active safety features such as ADAS Level 2. It also gets 6 airbags, electronic stability program, ISOFIX child seat mounts, 360-degree camera, and hill hold assist.

The Japanese model also gets AWD and a pedal misapplication control system as well. Powering the Japanese-spec Fronx is a 1.5-liter K15C petrol engine. It comes paired with a mild-hybrid system, which produces 103 PS and 136.8 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
