Maruti Suzuki Fronx Gets A Big Safety Boost

Following on the heels of XL6, Maruti Suzuki has made a significant update to the safety features of its Fronx model by offering six airbags as a standard feature across all its variants starting from 25 July 2025. This enhancement comes with a modest price adjustment, marking a pivotal moment in the vehicle's market positioning and emphasizing safety without a steep cost increase.
The inclusion of front, side, and curtain airbags as standard equipment in every Fronx variant represents a significant advancement in occupant protection. This update brings the Fronx in line with other Maruti Suzuki models, such as the XL6, Baleno, and Ertiga, which have also adopted the six-airbag standard. This move responds to the broader industry shift towards enhanced safety, spurred by directives requiring all new passenger vehicles to have six airbags by October 2025.
While specific financial details for each trim level have not yet been disclosed, the overall price increase is averaged at a modest 0.5% which means prices shouldn't go up by more Rs. 6000-7000, a relatively small amount for a significant upgrade in safety features.
The enhancement of the Fronx arrives at a time when the subcompact SUV segment is highly competitive, with safety features becoming a crucial consideration for buyers. While competitors like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV 3XO have offered six airbags in their higher variants, the Fronx sets a new standard by making this feature standard across all versions. This not only strengthens Maruti Suzuki's position in the market but also encourages other manufacturers to potentially follow suit, enhancing overall vehicle safety standards.
The Fronx, built on Maruti's Heartect platform, is known for its combination of style, efficiency, and now, enhanced safety. The decision to include six airbags as standard gives Maruti a few brownie points as some of its rivals have higher 5-star GNCAP rating. This update is likely to make the Fronx more appealing to safety-conscious buyers, further supported by the reasonable price adjustment.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a compact crossover that blends SUV-inspired styling with the practicality of a premium hatchback. Positioned between the Baleno and Brezza in Maruti’s Nexa lineup, the Fronx stands out for its coupe-like silhouette, bold front grille, and raised stance.
It’s available with two petrol engine options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated unit with mild hybrid tech and a more powerful 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol, offering a fun-to-drive experience while maintaining good fuel efficiency.
A key USP of the Fronx is its wide range of transmission choices, including manual, AMT, and 6-speed automatic. Inside, it features a modern cabin with a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a head-up display, and a 360-degree camera in higher variants.
The Fronx is also among the few models in its class to now offer six airbags as standard, along with ESP and hill-hold assist. Built on the Heartect platform, the Fronx combines safety with lightness for improved efficiency.
Its unique design, feature-loaded interior, multiple powertrain choices, and a strong service network make it a compelling choice for urban buyers seeking a stylish yet practical crossover without stepping into full-fledged SUV territory.
