Maruti Suzuki To Launch 3 New Electric Cars: Details And Launch Timelines

Electric vehicles (EVs) represent the future of mobility, as they do not rely on traditional fossil fuels like petrol or diesel. They are cleaner and more eco friendly. Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to take the EV route, with a series of launches planned for the upcoming years. The manufacturer is expected to launch three new electric vehicles- an electric hatchback, an SUV and an MPV. Let’s take a closer look at the details.
The production form of Maruti Suzuki eVX electric SUV could launch during the festive season of 2024. It is expected to redefine the electric SUV space with its price and value proposition. It has its roots in the EVX concept showcased at Auto Expo 2023. The mid-size SUV, internally codenamed Suzuki YY8, will compete with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and the Curvv EV.
Maruti Suzuki eVX electric SUV will have an attractive design with a coupe-like roofline. If teaser images are to be believed, the production-spec eVX will be a good-looking EV. It will be underpinned by a Born Electric platform developed in association with Toyota. There will be two battery pack choices- 48 kWh and 60 kWh. The production-spec eVX is expected to deliver up to 550 km in range.
Maruti Suzuki has not revealed the interior or features of the EVX. However, sources suggest that the cabin would have a premium feel to it and there will be a host of modern features on offer such as a large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, etc. The eVX will also be the first Maruti Suzuki product to offer ADAS.
The manufacturer is expected to launch this product in October 2024, around when more details about it would also surface. It will be manufactured in MSIL’s Gujarat facility and will also be exported to markets including Japan.
The eWX concept was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show, as the base for an affordable electric hatchback. It is underpinned by the bespoke K-EV platform. The production form of eWX would compete with the Tata Tiago EV upon launch. The automaker has plans to heavily localize the K-EV platform, battery packs and cells, to realize optimal if not competitive pricing. Maruti Suzuki will need to price the EV very competitively to eat into the sales of popular models like the Tiago EV. Expect the eWX-based hatchback to launch sometime in 2026-27.
Suzuki is also working on an electric MPV. Internally codenamed YMC, this product is expected to be out by September 2026. This MPV would be based on the same BEV platform as the EVX. Key components like the battery pack and drivetrain would also be shared with the SUV. It, however, is expected to be smaller than the eVX in dimensions. There will also be a Toyota version of this, later in time.
This electric MPV could borrow some of its design cues from the Ertiga. Even though little is known about the details of the same, we expect to see EV-spec grille and fresh-looking headlamps on the vehicle. As with the EVX, MSIL could price their electric MPV competitively as well.
With a diverse range of powertrain technologies and neatly sketched product plans, Maruti Suzuki’s “Vision 3.0” strategy seems to be quite promising for people who are on the lookout for value-driven EVs.
