Victoris Becomes The First Maruti SUV To Score Five-Star Global NCAP Safety Rating

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Victoris has achieved another milestone. It performed exceptionally well in the crash tests conducted by Global NCAP and was awarded a full five-star safety rating. It has become the first Maruti Suzuki SUV to achieve this. The GNCAP results come days after the vehicle scored an impressive 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests. Both results have cemented the upcoming SUV’s reputation as the safest Maruti Suzuki today.

Global NCAP Crash Test Results Of The New Victoris: Details

In the crash tests conducted by Global NCAP, the SUV scored five-star ratings for both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP). In AOP tests, it scored 31.72 points out of 34. In child safety, it scored 41 out of 49.

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Victoris offered good protection to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs, left tibia, and feet . The Chest and right tibia enjoyed ‘adequate’ protection. The co-driver had good protection to the head, neck, chest, pelvis, thighs, and tibia. The overall scores in this test stood at 15.807 out of 16.

The SUV scored 15.913/16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test. In the side pole impact test, the safety offered to all parts of the driver was rated as ‘OK’. The chest protection was rated as ‘adequate’ in the side movable deformable barrier test. The integrity of the frontal bodyshell was rated ‘stable’.

In child safety, the SUV scored full marks in the Dynamic test- 24/24. It scored full marks for Child restraint system (CRS) installation- 12 out of 12. Both 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies enjoyed good protection in dynamic tests. Both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies enjoyed full front protection as well (8/8).

Maruti Victoris comes equipped with a long list of safety features and tech. It comes with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all occupants, electronic parking brake with auto hold, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, traction control, overspeed alerts, and more.

In addition to these, the Victoris gets a 360-degree camera and a comprehensive level 2 ADAS suite as well. The latter gets features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, high-beam assist, and more. With India’s buyer crowd focusing more on safety and crashworthiness, five-star safety ratings in the GNCAP and BNCAP crash tests will give the Victoris a spirited start.

The Victoris is underpinned by the same Suzuki Tect platform as the Grand Vitara. It borrows its powertrain options from the NEXA SUV as well. There will be three engines on offer- a 1.5L, four-cylinder mild hybrid engine (K15) that makes 103hp, a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle strong-hybrid petrol that excels with its fuel efficiency and a CNG engine as well.

The CNG version will have its CNG tank integrated into the vehicle’s underbody. Both manual and automatic transmission options will be available. The SUV will also have 4x4 and 4x2 variants on offer.

In Maruti’s portfolio, the Victoris will be placed between the Brezza and the Grand Vitara, and will also become the new Arena flagship when launched. This product will help Maruti capture more price points in the hot-selling compact SUV segment.
