Maruti Suzuki has revealed its newest compact SUV for India- the Victoris. When launched, it will compete with the Hyundai Creta here. The carmaker has packaged the Victoris well. It has had a strong focus on safety. The SUV was even crash-tested by Bharact NCAP (BCAP), in which it earned a full five-star safety rating, becoming the first Maruti SUV to have achieved this milestone.

The front crash protection, side crash protection, child protection and even safety assist technologies were evaluated under the latest protocols. The evaluation program tested the top-of-the-line ZXI+ strong hybrid eCVT and the ZX+(O) variants. It had a test weight of 1,549kg. The Victoris scored 31.66 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 43 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP).

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the SUV scored 15.66 out of 16 points. It offered adequate protection to the driver’s chest and knee, and lost marks for the same. The head, neck, and pelvis protection were all rated as good.

Protection offered to all body parts of the front passenger was also evaluated to be good. In the side deformable barrier test, it scored 16 out of 16 points. The protection offered in the side pole impact test, was rated as ‘OK’.

In child safety test, it scored 43 points out of 49. It scored full marks in the dynamic test- 24 out of 24. Even in the CRS (Child Restraint System) tests, the vehicle scored full points- 12/12. The scores in the vehicle assessment test were 7/13. Both 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies were tested in rear-facing child seats. The Victoris comes with ISOFIX mounts. It doesn’t, however, have an integrated child restraint system.

These results, the program said, apply for all variants of the Victoris. The SUV comes with safety features like six airbags, ABS, EBD, 3-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, and ISOFIX anchorages. It is also the first Maruti to offer Level 2 ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and more. The vehicle even complies with AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms.

These crash test results from Bharat NCAP have made the Victoris rank among the safest cars and SUVs in India, based on BNCAP scores. Talking AOP scores alone, its numbers are only less than those of the Harrier.EV, Mahindra BE6 and the XEV 9e.

Maruti Suzuki will also offer 4x4 hardware on some of the mild-hybrid variants.
