Updated 1:33 PM - Maruti has unveiled the Victoris SUV. Slightly bigger than the Grand Vitara, it has the same power train options - Petrol, Hybrid, Mild Hybrid, CNG. 4x4 is available on the lower variants too. Click here for full details. Maruti Suzuki is set to launch a highly anticipated product in the Indian market- the Victoris. It will enter the fiercely competitive C-SUV segment, currently dominated by the Hyundai Creta. The pricing will be key in defining its success here and in keeping cannibalisation minimal, as Maruti already has a product in the C-segment- the Grand Vitara. With just hours left for its market entry, here’s everything to know about the Victoris.

The Name Is Victoris

The news of Maruti Suzuki launching a new compact SUV on September 3 has been around for some time. Its name, however, remained unclear. Initial reports suggested that the carmaker could call it the Escudo when launched. Latest Update: Maruti Victoris Unveiled!

Recently, however, it was confirmed that the new vehicle will be called the Victoris. The name was listed on Maruti Suzuki’s official website, and briefly surfaced on Google Search results.

Positioning

Maruti Suzuki already sells the Grand Vitara in the C-SUV segment. It is, however, sold through Nexa showrooms. The Victoris is an Arena product and will sit above the Brezza. It will target those people who want a bigger, better SUV than the Brezza, at a lower price point than a loaded Grand Vitara.

Expected Design

The Victoris will be a good-looking SUV. We will have to wait till the launch to learn more about the design details. It is expected to have strong design influences of the Grand Vitara. The front fascia and lighting signatures will, however, be unique and stylish.

Maruti Suzuki had previously put out a teaser showing the LED tail lamp design of Victoris. It showed interesting details and lighting elements, adding to the anticipation and hype around the product.

Upright stance and clean panels will both be signature features of this design. In dimensions, the Victoris will be comparable to the outgoing Creta. We will learn the exact numbers later today.

Interior Design And Features

The Victoris will have a modern cabin design and a strong focus on occupant comfort. It will come better equipped than the Brezza and the Grand Vitara. It will have features like powered tailgate, premium audio system with Dolby Atmos, and Level 2 ADAS.

In addition to these, features like a large, floating touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, full-digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, Head Up Display (HUD), ventilated seats, automatic climate control, and 360-degree camera are also to be expected. On the safety front, the Victoris will get six standard airbags, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX mounts and various other features.

Expected Powertrains

Representational image

The Victoris will be based on the same Global C platform as the Grand Vitara. It will also borrow its powertrains from the Nexa SUV. The Grand Vitara offers the choice of three engines- a 1.5L K15 mild-hybrid petrol engine, 1.5L three-cylinder strong hybrid petrol engine which uses the Atkinson cycle, and a petrol-CNG dual-fuel engine.

The regular petrol (mild hybrid) produces 103 hp while the strong hybrid has a higher power output of 115hp. Both manual and automatic transmissions are offered on the Grand Vitara. The same are expected to make their ways to the Victoris as well.

Built-In CNG option

Interestingly, the CNG version of Victoris will have its CNG tank integrated into the underbody. It won’t simply be a retrofit. This will help in minimising the tank’s impact on usable boot and storage spaces.

Expected Price

Since it is sold through Arena dealerships, the Victoris will sit at an affordable price point and will be affordable to own as well. We expect the prices to start at Rs 9.7 lakh, ex-showroom.
