Maruti Suzuki is set to launch an all-new product on September 3, 2025. It will be a tech-packed SUV that will be larger than the Maruti Brezza and will be sold through the Arena dealerships when launched. It will likely become Arena’s most expensive product then. Previous rumours suggested that the upcoming SUV will be called the Escudo when launched. Later, another name too surfaced in rumours- ‘Victoris’. Now, the SUV’s official name has been leaked ahead of the launch date. The carmaker’s official website has listed the name ‘Victoris’ in it.

Maruti Victoris: Why Is It So Important?

The name surfaced briefly in Google search results, confirming the identity of the SUV. Internally called the Y17, the new SUV will be important for Maruti Suzuki’s India business. At present, the Brezza is Arena’s flagship SUV. A customer who wants something bigger and better than it will be left with no option. This is where the new SUV comes into play.

Think of the Victoris as the Arena’s Grand Vitara. It will sit between the Brezza and Grand Vitara in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio. It will be underpinned by the Global C-platform- the same one that is found on the Grand Vitara as well. The new product seems to have clearly defined its target audience.

We expect it to be priced in the range of Rs 9-18 lakh, when launch. This smart pricing will help in reducing the chances of product cannibalisation, as the Grand Vitara is priced higher, and sold through Nexa. With the Victoris, Maruti will be able to bridge the gap that currently exists in their SUV game plan. The Victoris, if placed right, will be able to sell well in tier-2 and tier-3 markets.

More About Victoris

In dimensions, the Victoris will be comparable to the hot-selling Hyundai Creta. It is in fact, expected to be longer than the Grand Vitara. Time remains before we learn the actual numbers. The vehicle will likely take a family-focussed approach with its design, room and packaging.

Inside, Maruti Suzuki will give it ample cabin room and a lot of features. The Victoris will come with a powered tailgate, premium audio system with Dolby Atmos, Level 2 ADAS suite, 360-degree camera, a large touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, digital instrument cluster, cruise control, rear AC vents, Head-Up Display (HUD), connected car features, and ventilated seats.

The safety suite will have the likes of multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring, rear parking sensors, ESP, and ISOFIX mounts.

The Victoris will borrow its powertrains from the Grand Vitara. It will use the same naturally aspirated petrol, strong hybrid petrol and CNG powertrains as the NEXA SUV. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol produces 103 PS on the Grand Vitara, while the strong hybrid has 116 hp on offer.

The CNG variant of the Grand Vitara delivers 88PS. It remains to be seen if these numbers would remain unchanged on the Victoris. Both manual and automatic transmissions are expected to be offered.

Another interesting detail is that the CNG version will have its CNG tanks integrated into the underbody. These won’t be retrofitment, and will be integrated into the design from factory. This will help in generating ample boot space and in improving practicality.

Will Victoris Have A Toyota Version?

At the time of writing this article, it is unclear if Toyota would soon bring its version of the Victoris. The chances of such a move are high though. If the ongoing partnership spawns a Toyota version of the Victoris, it will be positioned between the Hyryder and Taisor (rebadged Fronx) in Toyota’s India lineup.

If such a move happens, it is likely that the new product may cause some amount of cannibalisation to the Hyryder, as unlike Suzuki, Toyota doesn’t have separate premium and non-premium dealership networks. But again, the new product could fill the void left by the previous Urban Cruiser to some extent. In short, rolling out a Toyota version of the Victoris can benefit Toyota in the long run, and will likely happen in the time ahead.
