Maruti Suzuki has not launched any new model in the market this year so far. However, things are about to change. Maruti has been working on a new Creta-rivalling SUV for quite some time. The SUV will be officially revealed on September 3rd and will be sold via Arena dealerships. The Creta rival will be offered with three engine options.

According to reports circulating online, the new Maruti mid-sized SUV will be offered with the same set of engines as the Grand Vitara. The upcoming SUV from Maruti will come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated mild-hybrid petrol engine that generates 103 PS and 139 Nm of peak torque.

This engine will be available with both manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options. It is currently unclear whether Maruti will offer the AWD feature in the new SUV with this engine, as seen in the Grand Vitara.

Maruti will also offer a CNG variant of the car with the same engine. The CNG version is expected to feature a new setup where the CNG tank is neatly concealed under the body instead of being placed in the boot.

It remains uncertain whether Maruti will launch the CNG version at the time of the initial release or introduce it at a later date. This underfloor CNG tank technology is expected to be carried forward to other CNG models in Maruti’s lineup as well. This feature will free up more space in the boot.

The third engine option is a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine. This engine is paired with an electric motor that offers better efficiency and performance. It generates around 116 PS and 122 Nm of peak torque and will be available exclusively with a CVT gearbox.

The difference between the Maruti Grand Vitara and the upcoming mid-sized SUV is expected to be similar to that between the Ertiga and the XL6. While the Grand Vitara is positioned as a premium offering, the new car will be offered as a more affordable alternative. This means there is a strong possibility that the vehicle will be priced below the Grand Vitara.

In terms of features, Maruti Suzuki is likely to offer a decent number of amenities, such as a floating touchscreen infotainment system, 360-degree camera, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, electric sunroof, and more. It remains to be seen whether Maruti will offer leatherette upholstery or opt for fabric seats to maintain aggressive pricing.

The new Maruti Suzuki SUV will be launched in the market in the coming months. A Toyota version of the SUV is also expected to be introduced soon. The SUV will be manufactured in India and exported to other countries. There is a possibility that Suzuki might use a different name for it in international markets (possibly Escudo).
