Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the Victoris SUV in India. Priced from Rs 10.49 lakh, ex-showroom, it has become Arena’s new flagship product. Interestingly, it is the carmaker’s second product in the compact SUV segment. The Grand Vitara, sold through the NEXA network, also falls into the same segment. In this article, we will explore how the two compare with each other in terms of their prices and packaging, and see which SUV offers the best value...

The Victoris has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 10.49 lakh, for the base-spec Lxi variant. The starting price of the Grand Vitara stands significantly higher, at Rs 11. 42 lakh. The most expensive variant of the Victoris is the ZXi+ (O) strong hybrid. It has an ex-showroom price of Rs 19.98 lakh. The range-topping strong hybrid variant of the Grand Vitara costs Rs 20.68 lakh, ex-showroom. Clearly, the Victoris prices undercut those of its NEXA sibling. There is definitely some overlap involved.

Both the Grand Vitara and Victoris feature the same set of powertrains and transmissions. The engine options include a 1.5L naturally aspirated mild-hybrid petrol engine (K15), a 1.5L three-cylinder strong hybrid petrol engine, and CNG. Both automatic and manual transmissions are offered on both vehicles. Even the underlying platform is the same- Suzuki Tect. Let’s see how the prices of these compare.

The mild-hybrid variants of the Victoris have their ex-showroom prices in the range of Rs 10.49 lakh- 19.21 lakh. Strong hybrid variants start at Rs 16.37 lakh, ex-showroom, and go up to Rs 19.98 lakh. There are three CNG variants on offer- priced at Rs 11.49 lakh, Rs 12.79 lakh, and Rs 14.56 lakh respectively.

In the Grand Vitara lineup, it is the Zeta+ Strong hybrid variant that strikes a fine balance between efficiency, features, and value. It has an ex-showroom price of Rs 18.60 lakh. This variant comes with features like a panoramic sunroof, 7.0-inch fully digital instrument cluster, Head Up display, wireless charger, 9.0-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, an Arkamys sound system and more.

It, however, misses out on features such as ventilated seats, leatherette wrapped steering wheel, puddle lamps, 360 camera, and tyre pressure monitor- these are included only on the range-topping Alpha+ Hybrid variant. The biggest strength of the Zeta Plus hybrid is its 1.5L strong hybrid powertrain that runs on Atkinson cycle and offers a fuel efficiency of up to 26 kpl on highways.

The Victoris comes better kitted than the Grand Vitara. It offers a bunch of features that are not included on the Grand Vitara, like a powered tailgate with gesture control, premium 8-speaker Infinity audio with Dolby Atmos 5.1 Surround Sound, and level 2 ADAS. We have compared the two SUVs in detail in a previous story.

It gets 17-inch wheels, LED tailights, ORVMs with turn indicators, rear defogger, and halogen projector headlamps. Inside, the variant offers features like a 4.2-inch driver’s display, 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, two-speaker audio, voice assistant, Push button start/stop, smart key, automatic AC with rear vents and pollen air filter.

Even on the safety front, the Lxi variant comes equipped withg six airbags, ABS, brake assist, ESC, traction control, hill hold assist, three-point seatbelts and ISOFIX mounts. The Lxi variant is available with just the 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol powertrain and manual transmission. For people who are budget-bound, this variant makes a lot of sense.
