India’s Cheapest Hybrid Car To Cost Rs. 7 Lakh!

The Maruti WagonR is a very familiar name in Indian households. All generations of the WagonR have been popular among Indian buyers, and it looks like, with the next-generation WagonR, Maruti is planning to offer even more to its customers. According to the latest reports, Suzuki is currently working on a hybrid technology that it plans to introduce in the next-generation WagonR. Suzuki is developing this strong hybrid tech for the WagonR that is sold in the international market, and there is a possibility that it might come to India as well.
The Maruti WagonR is one of the best-selling models from the manufacturer in India. It has been in the Indian market for the last 25 years. People have appreciated the tall-boy design of the WagonR, as it makes the car extremely spacious and practical. With emission norms getting stricter, Maruti Suzuki will have to find new ways to make their vehicles compliant.
We don’t have much information related to the strong hybrid technology that is under development. Based on the details available online, we expect Suzuki to offer a completely new design for this tall-boy hatchback. It should be noted that the WagonR sold in India is different from the international version.
We have seen the international version in India when Suzuki was testing the electric version of the hatchback. The ICE version of the international model is actually powered by a smaller engine. According to reports, the upcoming hybrid version will use a 666-cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid system.
The petrol engine is expected to produce 53 bhp and a peak torque of 58 Nm, and the motor will deliver an additional 10 bhp and 29.5 Nm. The engine would be mated to an e-CVT gearbox. Maruti Suzuki is currently planning to launch a series hybrid tech in the Fronx next year. We are not sure if this is the same tech that we would see in the WagonR as well.
In the Japanese market, the hybrid WagonR will measure 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height. It will have a wheelbase of 2,460 mm, and the kerb weight will be 850 kg. Suzuki is expected to give the WagonR sliding doors for the rear. It is a tall wagon, and sliding doors would add to the final look of the car.
The Maruti WagonR is currently one of the most affordable cars sold by India’s largest car manufacturer. If they introduce hybrid technology in the next-generation WagonR, it will be interesting to see how they price it. The current generation WagonR in India has a starting price of Rs 5.54 lakh ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 7.33 lakh. Hybrid technology would make the car significantly more expensive, and it’s unclear whether Indian customers would be interested in the higher price.
As mentioned at the beginning, the WagonR has been a well-recognized name in Indian households due to its value-for-money appeal. It is spacious, reliable, no-nonsense, fuel-efficient, and offers peace of mind.
With the introduction of hybrid technology, the price of the car would increase even more, which may make it less appealing to customers. The hybrid version of the WagonR is expected to launch in the international market next year. The strong hybrid version may come to India but, at the moment there is no guarentee when.
