7 Km Traffic Jam After Gurugram Floods: Orange And Red Rain Alert For Delhi NCR

No matter how advanced or great road infrastructure in a city is, rain is one thing that throws everything off track. It completely affects the lives of people, and we start seeing congestion on the roads too. In the past, we have featured many such stories on our website. This time around, we have similar news from Gurugram, where commuters were stuck on the road for hours as there was a traffic jam at least 7 km long on the National Highway after heavy rains.
The video of the traffic jam on the highway has been circulating on various social media platforms. As per reports that have surfaced online, the Delhi-Jaipur highway saw a 7–8 km long traffic jam on Monday evening. The lives of commuters were thrown out of gear because of this unexpected jam after the rain.
This stretch of the highway usually has traffic congestion during office hours. The heavy rains only made things worse. Many roads were heavily waterlogged, and it was not hundreds but thousands of vehicles that were stuck in the jam.
The traffic congestion sparked outrage from many users online. Many people who commute from Gurugram to Delhi or Noida were stuck in this jam for hours. Even people who stay in Gurugram were unable to reach their homes on time due to waterlogging and congestion on the roads.
The video now circulating online shows an aerial view of the highway with thousands of vehicles stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Many of those who left office at around 4:30 pm reached home only by midnight. People frustrated with this incident took to X and asked questions to the authorities.
The Delhi NCR region has been getting heavy rains recently, and in the last couple of days, Gurugram has seen continuous downpours that resulted in waterlogging. Many premium societies in the region were also affected by this flood-like situation. Videos from different parts of the city have surfaced online showing commuters wading through waterlogged roads.
Gurugram administration and disaster management authorities have asked offices to allow their employees to work from home, and the same applies to schools as well. The region continues to receive rains even today, and the authorities have issued a Red Alert for Noida and Ghaziabad, while Delhi and Gurugram remain on Orange Alert.
Heavy rains in many North Indian states have actually increased the water level in the Yamuna. Delhi traffic police have issued an advisory and asked commuters to avoid taking the old iron bridge, while many other routes have also been diverted.
If you are reading this from somewhere in Delhi NCR, try to avoid stepping out of your home unless it is absolutely unavoidable. Apart from this, also try to take the metro, as driving on waterlogged roads can be dangerous.
If your vehicle stalls in water, do not try to start it, as the chances of water entering the engine via the air intake are pretty high. Ask for help, push your vehicle to higher ground, and take it to a service center to get it inspected before restarting. Hydrolocked engines are expensive and time-consuming to repair.
