JSW MG Motor India has begun deliveries of its Cyberster electric roadster, one of the most expensive production EVs currently available in the country. Eight customers received their cars on the same day at the MG Select showroom in Bengaluru, marking the start of deliveries for this premium model.

The Cyberster is priced at ₹74.99 lakh ex-showroom, positioning it in the luxury end of the EV market. Early adopters who had pre-booked the vehicle before launch received a preferential price of ₹72.49 lakh, a saving of ₹2.5 lakh. This approach rewarded early buyers while creating initial traction for the car’s entry into the market.

Performance and Range Credentials

The Cyberster uses a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup that produces 503 hp and 725 Nm of torque. This powertrain enables acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds, placing the car among the quickest electric models currently available in India. A 77 kWh battery pack provides a certified range of 580 km, which combines strong performance with long-distance usability.

Globally, demand for performance EVs is growing, but in India the segment remains very small. The Cyberster enters a market where fewer than 20,000 luxury EVs are estimated to have been sold in 2024, largely from brands like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. MG’s attempt with the Cyberster adds a sports car alternative within this limited but gradually expanding premium EV base.

Design and Features Setting It Apart

Distinctive design details are central to the Cyberster’s positioning. It features scissor doors, an electrically operated soft-top, and a low stance, making it the only electric convertible currently available in India. This immediately gives it clear differentiation from other premium EVs, which are almost exclusively SUVs or sedans.

The interior is equipped with a triple-screen dashboard layout, ventilated seats, wireless charging, and a Bose audio system. The focus is on combining luxury with modern connectivity. The colour palette includes Nuclear Yellow with Black roof, Flare Red with Black roof, Andes Grey with Red roof, and Modern Beige with Red roof, giving customers options to personalise the car’s sporty look.

Additional elements such as 20-inch alloys, Level 2 ADAS, and a 360-degree camera system align the Cyberster with global premium sports car standards. These fact-based features reflect MG’s effort to balance performance, design, and safety in a niche offering.

Building a Premium Brand Identity

Deliveries of the Cyberster are being conducted through MG Select outlets, a retail network designed for the brand’s premium models. Spread across 13 cities, these outlets focus on higher levels of service and customer engagement compared to conventional dealerships.

Standard warranty coverage includes three years of unlimited-kilometre vehicle protection and a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner. Customers can also opt for an extended five-year or 1.5 lakh km package. Home charging setups and portable chargers are offered as part of the package, reflecting the need to support customers who may expect convenience aligned with the car’s premium positioning.

The simultaneous delivery of eight cars is primarily a marketing milestone, aimed at showcasing exclusivity. It does not yet indicate sustained sales volumes but helps MG demonstrate early customer interest in a premium electric sports car. The Cyberster competes indirectly with models such as the BMW Z4, but its electric drivetrain sets it apart within the sports car space.

The first customers are likely to include early adopters and enthusiasts with the financial means to experiment with a high-priced EV. Their experience with build quality, reliability, and service will shape the model’s reputation in India.

For MG, the Cyberster is less about volumes and more about building a premium image. While the parent company SAIC has strong sales in China, India offers a distinct test bed for brand credibility in international markets. If MG can establish the Cyberster as a reliable, premium product here, it strengthens the brand’s global positioning by proving it can compete even with luxury cars outside its home market.
