Electric vehicles are slowly gaining demand in the Indian market, and British car manufacturer MG is well aware of this opportunity. They currently offer the MG Comet and ZS EV in the electric vehicle segment. In a bid to expand their lineup, MG is now preparing to launch their all-new electric crossover, Cloud, in the Indian market. MG plans to launch the Cloud EV before the festive season in India. The electric crossover will be priced under Rs. 20 lakh for the base trim.

MG Cloud

The electric crossover was recently spotted testing in India with heavy camouflage. For those who are not aware, this new EV by MG is based on the Wuling Cloud EV, sold in Indonesia. Just like the Comet, MG will rebadge the Cloud for India and make minor design changes.

According to reports surfacing online, the upcoming Cloud EV from MG will be positioned between the entry-level Comet EV and ZS EV. In fact, MG has stated that the upcoming Cloud MPV will be priced under Rs 20 lakh. This is going to make things interesting in this segment. While there are several SUVs and hatchbacks in the affordable EV segment, no car looks like an MPV in this segment.

MG is calling it a CUV or Crossover Utility Vehicle. In terms of design, it looks different from conventional SUVs or crossovers in this segment. It has a more curved look and design, which is more MUV-like. The Cloud will bridge the gap between the Comet and ZS EV and attract a whole new set of customers.

Exterior Design

In terms of exterior design, the MG Cloud is expected to look the same as the international variant. It is expected to come with a connected LED DRL that runs across the width of the car, a closed grille, headlamps placed on the front bumper, and so on. The MPV-like design is more evident in the side profile. It is a proper 4-door crossover.

The Cloud EV will come with 18-inch alloy wheels, and as we move to the rear, we expect MG Comet-like small wraparound tail lamps with a connecting LED bar.

Interior

Just like any MG product, the Cloud will be offered with a feature-loaded cabin. It will have a minimalist design similar to the Comet, making the cabin look more spacious. There will be a large touchscreen infotainment system, sleek AC vents, a digital instrument cluster, electrically adjustable seats, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a wireless phone charger, 4 or 6 airbags (probably a standard feature), ABS, EBD, ESC, TPMS, Hill Hold Assist, and a 360-degree camera.

Apart from all this, MG is also expected to offer the Cloud with ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and autonomous emergency braking.

Powertrain

The MG Cloud EV will be offered with a 50.6 kWh battery pack, which is the international or Indonesian spec version mentioned here. The battery powers the electric motor placed on the front axle of the MG Cloud. This electric motor is capable of generating 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. This setup has a claimed driving range of 460 km.

A smaller 37.9 kWh battery pack option is also available internationally, offering a 360 km driving range. The MG Cloud supports DC fast charging, which helps the battery pack charge within 30 minutes (from 30-100 percent). MG is planning to price the Cloud under Rs 20 lakh to rival the upcoming Tata Curvv EV.
