MG Cloud Crossover EV Teased Ahead Of India Launch

MG had earlier, in an interview with a media publication, confirmed that they are planning to launch five new models in the Indian market. Out of these five, three will be mass-market models, while the other two will be placed in the premium or expensive category. MG is pushing a lot on their electric models, and the first product to be launched by MG will be the Cloud EV. MG has now released a new teaser video for their upcoming electric crossover, or as they call it, “CUV”.
The video has been shared by Morris Garages India on their official YouTube channel. MG has been testing the Cloud EV in India for a very long time. We have spotted the test mule of the Cloud EV several times. This is, however, the first time MG has officially released any video for the same.
Coming to the video, it does not show the actual car. It gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the Cloud EV. We see the silhouette of the headlamps, A-pillar, panoramic sunroof, interior, and seats of the car. MG, in their teaser, mentions that the upcoming CUV will get the comfort of a sedan and the spacious cabin of an SUV.
We know from the spy videos available online that it is going to get an MPV-like design, but MG likes to call it a crossover, and they are officially calling it a CUV. We see an MG Comet-like steering wheel in the teaser video, along with a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system.
MG Cloud EV is not a brand-new product built from scratch. It is based on the Wuling Cloud EV, sold in Indonesia. The MG Cloud EV is offered with a 50.6 kWh battery pack internationally. The electric motor generates 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque. The Cloud EV is expected to have a driving range of 460 km. A smaller 37.9 kWh battery pack option is also available, with a 360 km driving range.
Recently, MG stated that they will price the Cloud EV quite competitively, and it is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh. The crossover from MG Comet will compete with the likes of Nexon EV in the segment, as their MG ZS EV is more expensive than the Nexon EV.MG Cloud is expected to be launched in the Indian market by September or October.
The upcoming MG Cloud EV is going to be the first product launched in the Indian market after its tie-up with the JSW group. Other than MG Cloud, the British car manufacturer is expected to launch the Bingo EV hatchback.
The 5-door EV is based on the same platform as the Comet and the upcoming Cloud EV. The Bingo EV is expected to get a 31.9 kWh battery pack with a claimed driving range of 333 km.
The third product is expected to be a brand-new D-segment SUV. The upcoming SUV is expected to be positioned alongside the current flagship Gloster. As per the reports, MG might launch the D-segment SUV as both PHEV and an all-electric format.
