Exclusive: MG Comet Gets Lifetime Battery Warranty

In order to lure in more buyers for its most affordable electric vehicle, MG is offering the Comet EV hatchback’s battery a lifetime warranty. Recently, the company launched the MG Comet EV with a "Battery as a Service" program for ₹4.99 lakh. With this price, the company does not include the battery with the car and charges a battery rental fee of ₹2.5 per km. The company first introduced the "Battery as a Service" program with its recently launched Windsor EV.
According to MG, the Comet EV gets an unlimited-kilometer lifetime warranty for its battery pack. As per the company, this warranty will only be offered to the first owner. Most likely, after the change of ownership, the battery warranty will be eight years or 1,20,000 km, whichever comes first.
MG also offers an e-Shield 3-3-3-8 package. This package includes three years of roadside assistance, three free labor services, and a three-year or one lakh-kilometer warranty. Most likely, with the newly introduced unlimited warranty, the company will see a slight surge in the sales of the Comet EV.
In other MG Comet EV news, the company recently launched the new Blackstorm Edition of the Comet EV. The new blacked-out version of the Comet EV has been launched with a price tag of ₹4.99 lakh with the battery as a subscription model. As for the price with the battery included, it is ₹6.99 lakh.
On the outside, the new MG Comet EV Blackstorm Edition gets a starry black exterior paint, and it also gets sporty red accents. These have been added to the front bumper, skid plate, and side claddings. Additionally, the same red accents have also been added to the black alloy wheels of this hatchback.
As for the changes on the inside, the company has given the Comet EV Blackstorm Edition an all-black interior with red stitching and “Blackstorm” badges on the headrests. It retains some beige hues on the dashboard, door panels, and center console. Additionally, the vehicle also gets leatherette seat upholstery, adding to the premium appeal.
MG offers the Comet EV Blackstorm Edition with the same electric motor as the standard model. It makes 42 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque. As for the battery pack, it comes equipped with a 17.3 kWh unit, which offers an ARAI-claimed range of 230 km. All the power is sent to the rear wheels.
MG is going full throttle in India after seeing the success of the Windsor EV. Recently, a test mule of the new Windsor EV with the bigger 50 kWh battery pack was spotted testing. This new model will be priced ₹1 lakh more than the current 38 kWh battery pack model. As for the range, it is expected to provide a range of 461 km on a single full charge.
The current MG Windsor EV is offered with a 38 kWh battery pack, which provides a range of 331 km on a single charge. As for the electric motor, it comes equipped with a 136 bhp and 200 Nm-producing unit, which powers the front wheels.
