The Comet has been a popular choice among buyers seeking a budget-friendly, all-electric city car. The pricing has always remained one of its biggest strong points. Now, JSW MG Motor India has announced an upward revision in its prices, rendering the electric car more expensive. The prices have gone up by up to Rs. 35,700. The Comet EV now starts at Rs. 7.35 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec now comes with an ex-showroom price of 9.84 lakh. Despite the revision, the Comet continues to be MG's most affordable electric car.

The Comet comes in seven variants- Executive, Excite, Excite FC, Exclusive, Exclusive FC, Blackstorm Edition, and the 100-Year Edition. The Excite and Excite FC are now pricier by Rs. 16,000 and Rs. 4,000 respectively. The price hike on other variants stands at Rs. 5,300. The 100-year edition, however, doesn't get a price hike.

MG Comet's Time In India

Morris Garages launched the Comet EV in India in April 2023. Back then, it had a starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh. Later, the manufacturer reduced the prices, making the EV more affordable and appealing to larger crowds. The biggest rival to the Comet EV is the Tata Tiago EV.

The Comet is based on the Wuling Air EV and features a boxy design. Key design highlights include a full-width LED light bar (MG calls it the 'Extended Horizon'), a Chrome and Piano Black strip that connects both wing mirrors, charging port located at the front, an asymmetrical window design, and an illuminated MG logo. The car rides on 12-inch alloy wheels- the smallest in segment. The company offers five exterior colour options on the Comet, and various graphics packs can be opted for as well.

The Comet would surprise you with its dimensions. It measures 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width and 1,640mm in height. The wheelbase here is just 2,010mm. Despite these, the cabin feels to offer ample room and comfort.

MG offers a lot of technology and features on the Comet. The top spec comes with two 10.25-inch screens – one for the infotainment unit and the other for digital instrumentation. The front seat has a one-touch tumble and fold feature, which can be used to access the rear row. The rear seat, again, comes with a 50:50 split folding function. Like many larger electric vehicles, the Comet features a rotary control as its drive selector.

Other features on this electric car are wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, manual AC controls, keyless entry, steering-mounted controls, three USB ports and over 55 connected features. The safety suite consists of ABS, EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), reverse camera, sensors and dual front airbags.

On the powertrain front, the Comet EV comes with a 17.3kWh LFP battery pack sourced from Tata Autocomp. It is claimed to return an ARAI-certified range of 230km per charge. MG has given it a 3.3kW onboard charger, which will get charging done in just seven hours. There is also a Fast Charger version available on select variants which further bring the charging time down.

The electric motor is capable of producing 42 hp and 110 Nm of torque. This power is sent to the rear wheels alone.

Earlier this year, MG launched the 2025 Comet EV with notable revisions in the feature list. Today, it continues to offer BaaS (Battery as a Service) and outright purchase options. The new Excite and Excite FC variants come with reverse parking camera and electrically folding Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs). The Exclusive and Exclusive FC now get leatherette seats and a four-speaker audio system.
