Exclusive: MG CyberSter, MiFa 9 India Launch In 2025

JSW-MG Motor is all set to launch two new premium cars through its newly minted range of premium car dealerships called MG Select. Both cars will be shown at the Bharat Mobility Expo, which is slated to happen in January-end. The first car to roll out from MG Select premium dealerships will be the MiFa electric luxury MPV. We learn that the MiFa will be known as the M9 in the Indian car market. The market launch of the MG M9 luxury MPV will happen in March 2025, following the Bharat Mobility Expo unveil.
The second big launch for MG Select will be the Cyberster electric sportscar that JSW-MG Motor showcased when the joint venture was announced by Mr. Sajjan Jindal back in March 2024. Like the MiFa, the Cyberster will also get renamed for the Indian market. The Cyberster electric sportscar is lined up for launch in the middle of 2025. Later today, MG Motor will announce the name of the India-spec Cyberster.
JSW-MG Motor will use the MG Select range of dealerships to sell premium but relatively affordable cars. Most cars sold from MG Select dealerships will take the completely knocked down (CKD) assembly route into the Indian market so that prices are kept competitive. Think of MG Select dealerships and the cars they sell as ‘Business Class’ seats in an airplane, while luxury cars can be categorized as ‘First Class’ seats.
Basically, JSW-MG want to occupy this sweet spot that delivers higher volumes than the full blown luxury car market. And they want to deliver what India absolutely loves – value, which will be unlocked through CKD assembly. Now, let’s take a quick look at what the first two cars from the MG Select franchise bring to the table. First, the MiFa 9, which will be called the MG M9 (a take on the Maxus 9 badge, which is what this MPV is called in markets abroad) in India..
The MG M9 is a luxury MPV with an all-electric powertrain. Given its generous proportions – 5,270 mm length, 2,000 mm width, 1,840 mm height and 3,200 mm wheelbase, the MG M9 is even larger than the Toyota Vellfire – a MPV that’s priced at over a crore. The MG M9 is expected to retail at half the price of the Vellfire, at about 60 lakh, and also offer very low running costs thanks to its electric powertrain.
Talking of the powertrain, the electric motor will sit at the front of the MPV, driving the front wheels. It will make about 240 Bhp-350 Nm, and will get a mammoth 90 kWh lithium ion battery – the largest on a MPV sold in India. A real world range of about 400 Kms is what the MG M9 will offer. A panoramic sunroof, 7/8 seat layout, and plenty of luxury car features will make for a business class cabin experience. We’ll have to wait for the Bharat Mobility Expo to see the exact list of features that the India-spec model will offer.
The second big launch from JSW-MG for the MG Select dealership chain will be the Cyberster. The Cyberster will be the most expensive car to be sold from MG Select, and is expected to command a price tag of Rs. 70 lakh. A niche offering meant to underscore what JSW-MG Motor is capable of building, the electric sportscar will be a positioned as a brand builder. The Cyberster that will be sold in India will be the roadster (convertible) version.
The trim level expected for the Cyberster is the top-of-the-line GT pack, which gets dual electric motors – one on each axle – juiced by a massive 77 kWH battery. Combined outputs are supercar-like: 544 Bhp-725 Nm. 0-100 Kph at 3 seconds means that the Cyberster will be the fastest car in JSW-MG Motor’s line-up. Top speed will be limited to 200 Kph though, and real-world range is expected to be around 400 Kms. Over to the name unveil of the India-spec MG Cyberster then!
