The MG Hector, a familiar presence on Indian roads since 2019, has just been updated to meet the government’s new fuel regulations. As of April 2025, all petrol variants of the Hector are now E20-compliant—ready to run on a blend of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol. This move isn’t just about ticking regulatory boxes. It’s a clear signal that MG Motor is aligning itself with India’s growing emphasis on sustainable mobility.

A Timely Move for a Greener Tomorrow

From April 1, 2025, all new petrol vehicles sold in India must be compatible with E20 fuel. MG Motor—now operating under the JSW MG Motor India banner—was quick to act, beginning production of E20-compliant Hector petrol variants on March 31. The updated SUV is priced from ₹13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), giving buyers peace of mind about future fuel compatibility.

For those tracking MG’s portfolio, this update follows a similar change made to the Astor SUV, reinforcing the company’s broader commitment to cleaner technology without compromising on core offerings.

What’s Changed—and What Hasn’t

Mechanically, the Hector remains largely unchanged, which is likely to reassure existing fans. The E20-compliant petrol engine is still the same 1.5-litre turbo unit that makes 141 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. Diesel buyers can opt for the familiar 2.0-litre engine producing 168 bhp and 350 Nm of torque, available only with a manual transmission.

The Hector continues to be offered in six trims—Style, Shine Pro, Select Pro, Smart Pro, Sharp Pro, and Savvy Pro—and caters to both five- and seven-seater configurations. Inside, it retains its hallmark features: a massive 14-inch portrait touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, fully digital instrument cluster, and eight-colour ambient lighting. MG’s suite of connected car technologies also continues, making the Hector one of the most tech-loaded SUVs in its class.

How the Hector Stacks Up on Price

At ₹13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the MG Hector undercuts several of its rivals—including some that are somewhat smaller—in the mid-size SUV segment, especially when you factor in the features on offer. While SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos also now come with updated tech and safety features, their turbo-petrol variants tend to start higher and may not offer the same level of cabin space or touchscreen size at the entry point.

Similarly, the Tata Harrier, though recently refreshed, commands a higher base price and is positioned more towards the premium end. The Hector’s pricing strategy has always been about offering more for less, and with the E20 update included without a significant price hike, it continues to play the value card effectively—particularly for buyers seeking a well-equipped family SUV without stretching their budget too far.

Ownership Perks: Midnight Carnival Campaign

To mark the update, MG has introduced a limited-period ‘Midnight Carnival’ offer. Buyers can avail of benefits worth up to ₹4 lakh, including a two-year extended warranty and an extra two years of Roadside Assistance—adding up to five years of peace-of-mind ownership. In addition, 20 lucky buyers will win a trip to London via a lucky draw, adding a dash of excitement to the deal.

Why This Update Matters to Everyday Buyers

For most buyers, this isn’t just about ethanol. It’s about future-proofing their next car purchase. With fuel stations across India gradually moving to E20 supply, a compatible vehicle ensures there won’t be surprises down the road. The Hector retains its traditional strengths: spacious cabin, comfort-first ride quality, and feature-rich interiors—while adding a useful upgrade combined enticing offers.

With this E20 update, MG has made sure the Hector keeps up with the times—both in terms of fuel tech and customer expectations. At a starting price of ₹13.99 lakh, it remains a compelling choice for buyers who want space, style, and future-readiness in one package.
