2 Brand New Electric MPVs Launching In The Next One Week: All You Need To Know

The electric MPV segment is slowly opening up in India. Two new models are set to launch in the country this month. These belong to different segments and will have diverse price ranges. Let's take a closer look at these.
MG is set to bring its luxury electric MPV- M9- to the Indian market. With the launch set to commence on July 10, 2025, the carmaker has started accepting bookings for the same. Buyers can now reserve their M9 by paying a token amount of Rs 51,000. When launched, the M9 will be sold through the 'MG Select' network. Deliveries are expected to begin shortly after launch.
Think of the M9 as an all-electric alternative to the Toyota Vellfire and Kia Carnival. It has a bold, boxy design and spans more than 5 meters in length. The vehicle has immense road presence and comes with design highlights like LED daytime running light, a large grille, LED tail lamps and more.
The MG M9 will have a generous room on the inside. The cabin will have a Cognac Brown colourway. It will be a proper seven-seater. The middle row will have two captain chairs with ottoman-style footrests. They will have heating, ventilation and massage functions as well.
Other features expected on the M9 are dual-pane panoramic sunroofs, 64-colour ambient lighting, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, electrically operated sliding doors, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), multiple large screens, voice control, and rear entertainment screens.
The M9 will come with a 90 kWh battery pack and a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The motor makes 245 PS and 350 Nm of torque. The vehicle has a claimed WLTP range of 430 km. The carmaker hasn't revealed the charging times and other details yet. We expect the MG M9 to be priced in the ballpark of Rs 65 lakh, ex-showroom. Such pricing will help MG to place it squarely against the likes of Vellfire.
Kia is set to launch its first mass-market electric vehicle- the Clavis EV, in India. Scheduled for a July 15 launch, the Clavis EV will become Kia's first made-in-India EV.
On the design front, the Clavis EV will be identical to the petrol/diesel counterpart. Very few changes are to be expected. The vehicle will have EV-specific alloy wheel design, a charging port that sits on the nose, and a closed-off grille section. Some areas of this design seem to have taken inspiration from that of the EV5.
On the inside, the layout and design will stand close to those offered on the ICE Clavis. Since it is an EV, the centre console gas no gear lever mounted on it. The EV will offer more storage areas than the petrol/diesel Clavis. It will be a seven-seater.
There will be a large overlap between the feature lists of the ICE and EV Clavis. The electric MPV will come with a twin-screen setup (two 12.3 inch units), panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging, ambient lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, and premium Bose audio.
The Clavis EV will borrow its powertrain from the Hyundai Creta Electric. It will have two battery packs on offer- 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. As confirmed by the teaser, the Clavis EV will deliver a range of 490 kilometres per charge. The electric motor output could also mirror that of the Creta EV.
