The much-awaited MG M9 electric MPV has just gone on sale in India. It comes in just a single variant (called the Presidential Limousine) and has an (introductory) ex-showroom price of Rs 69.9 lakh. MG has chosen the SKD (Semi Knock Down) route to ship the M9 to our shores. It will be sold through MG's newly established 'Select' retailer network.

In the Indian market, the M9 battles Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) MPVs like the Carnival and Vellfire, as no other EV is currently sold in this segment. The pricing makes it take a mid-spot between these. The Carnival now has an ex-showroom price of 63.91 lakh, while the Vellfire sits much higher with its 1.22 Cr price tag.

The M9 had officially made its India debut at the Auto Expo earlier this year. It has now become the fourth all-electric offering from the carmaker in India and, more importantly, the first EV in the luxury MPV space.

More About The M9

For starters, the M9 is huge. It spans over 5.2 meters in length and is 2,000 mm wide. The wheelbase stands at 3,200 mm. The length here, is more than that of the Carnival and even the Vellfire!

The M9 has a boxy silhouette, likely an effort to maximise the cabin room. The overall design looks appealing. The vehicle gets LED DRLs, projector LED headlamps, muscular bumper, closed-off grille, chunky wheel arches and LED tail lamps with connected light bars. The windows are large and the same let a lot of light into the cabin. The colour palette consists of three shades- Metal Black, Pearl Lustre White, and Concrete Grey.

Step inside and you'll be greeted by a neatly organised, roomy cabin. The India-spec comes with a Cognac and black interior colourway. Several premium trims like brushed aluminium and faux wood can be spotted inside. The roof liners are finished in a shade of Grey. The interior looks pleasant and roomy.

Being a seven-seater, the M9 has two captain chairs in the second row. These offer electric adjustments and can be controlled with the help of a touchscreen that sits on the armrest. These screens also control things like power windows and ambient lighting. The second row seats offer heating, ventilation and massage functions as well. They can be reclined to a near-flat form and get a 16-way electrical adjustment.

The middle row gets plush, cushioned seats, which stand out with their comfort levels. These come with ottomans that can be deployed electrically.

This electric MPV is determined to stand relevant in today's fast-evolving EV landscape. It offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) functionalities as well.

Talking of the powertrain, the M9 comes with just a single battery pack- a 90 kWh unit that claims a range of 548 km per charge. The electric motor on this vehicle produces 245 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque.

The MG M9 is, in fact, the safest MPV that's on sale in India. It scored full five star rating and impeccable scores in Australian NCAP's crash tests. It scored 93% in Adult Occupant protection- the highest to be scored by an MPV. Since the same vehicle is brought via SKD, we can be sure of the safety levels offered by the new M9.
