Exclusive: MG Majestor Launch Pushed Back

MG Motor India had showcased its new full-size SUV Majestor for the first time at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. We have been awaiting the arrival of this SUV ever since. The Majestor is essentially the facelifted Gloster, and will sell alongside the familiar three-row SUV. It was originally slated to launch in the third week of May 2025. However, we have learnt from sources familiar with the matter that the carmaker has now pushed back the launch of the new SUV.
JSW MG Motor India will launch the Majestor in India during the festive season (June-July) 2025. The decision comes as part of its vision to give the vehicle a proper market launch, and potentially cash in on the festive season's momentum.
Another reason is the Majestor's prime rival in the Indian market- the Fortuner. Toyota is known to give its best-selling SUV a major overhaul this year. It is expected to be out in the second half of this year. The decision to introduce the Majestor in June-July will help it fetch itself ample time before its strongest rival arrives, while still staying fresh and relevant in the market.
In many international markets, the Majestor is sold as the updated Gloster. On the design front, it gets a bold new front end with a larger grille, vertically stacked LED headlamps, and stylish angular DRLs. The bumpers have also been updated for a more rugged appeal. The road presence has definitely had a leap upwards.
The rear will have connected LED tail lamps and bold ‘Majestor’ lettering across the tailgate. Dual exhaust tips and new alloy wheels complete the visual.
Step inside, and the Majestor would greet you with a completely updated cabin. The feature list is likely to include a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, and powered front seats with ventilation function. Other highlights include a 360-degree camera and MG’s advanced Level 2 ADAS.
Under the hood, the SUV is expected to house the same 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine found in the outgoing Gloster. This unit has already proven its might and reliability in the Indian context. While the exact power output has not yet been confirmed, no major mechanical changes are likely.
The Majestor will likely come with a premium price tag, expected to be atleast ₹5 lakh more than the Gloster. We will ge to know more around this, closer to the launch. Also, MG seems to have no plans to take the Majestor to its new 'Select' range of premium outlets. It will most likely be sold via regular MG dealerships.
Now let's talk about the upcoming generation of Toyota Fortuner. It will have major changes gone into it, including an all-new powertrain. The feature list will be reworked, and the likes of an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera and a 100W power adapter are expected to be offered.
Toyota launched a mild-hybrid version of the Fortuner in South Africa last year. That same is now expected to reach India as well. The engine will still be the trusted 2.8-litre turbo diesel, producing 201 PS and 500 Nm of torque.
However, it will now be paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This setup will improve low-end grunt and help increase the overall fuel efficiency—something Indians will definitely appreciate. While the international version only offers an automatic transmission, Toyota may offer both manual and automatic options in India.
