When we think of a full-size SUV in the Indian market, you are naturally drawn towards the Toyota Fortuner. The reason for that is it doesn’t have a rival in this segment in India and despite its hefty price tag, people like the reliability and peace of mind that Toyota offers. We had cars like the Ford Endeavour and Mahindra Alturas G4 in this segment, but the Fortuner retained its throne even then.

There is another challenger for the Fortuner and Legender coming soon to the market, and that is from MG. The MG Majestor SUV was unveiled earlier this year and the official launch of the SUV is expected to happen soon. Here is what you need to know about the upcoming Fortuner challenger.

The MG Majestor is a full-size SUV and it was first showcased to us at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year. While it is actually based on the same platform as the Gloster SUV, which is already on sale in India, MG has confirmed that they will be selling the Majestor as a different product and will continue to offer the Gloster for the Indian market. Internationally, the Majestor is actually the facelifted version of the Gloster.

This way, MG probably wants to position the Majestor as a premium product and rival the more expensive Fortuner Legender. The exterior design of the SUV is different from the Gloster. It gets a large front grille, vertically stacked LED headlamps on the bumper, sleek dual-function LED DRLs, and a rugged-looking front bumper.

There is a skid plate on the lower part of the bumper that adds to the SUV character of the vehicle. The Majestor has more than ample road presence. Coming to the side profile, you would be reminded of the Gloster. The design looks similar to the Gloster, with a different design for the alloy wheels.

As we move to the rear, the design changes once again. It looks huge and it comes with connected LED tail lamps, a rugged-looking bumper with a skid plate, and twin exhaust tips. We also see the Morris Garages badge and even bigger Majestor branding on the lower part of the tailgate.

This is a full-size three-row SUV and it comes with a spacious-looking cabin. The SUV will come with premium features that one would expect from a car in this segment. It will have a 12.3-inch large touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette seat upholstery, seat ventilation and massaging function, multi-zone climate control, electrically adjustable seats with memory function, AC vents for rear seat passengers, a 360-degree camera, HUD, Level 2 ADAS, a fully digital instrument cluster, and more.

The SUV will be available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine. This engine generates 216 bhp and 479 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV will be offered with both 4x4 and 4x2 variants. It remains to be seen whether the lower variants of the SUV will come with a single-turbo version or not.

The SUV was expected to get launched earlier this year but, due to multiple reasons they had to push the launch forward. Now that MG has officially launched their MG M9 and Cyberster, it looks like MG might soon launch the Majestor in the market.
